An imaginative inspired book with beautiful illustrations., 28 Dec 2000
By A Customer
I was given this book as a gift from my sister, she knew it would appeal to me as I love fairy tales. Although many people will already be familiar with the stories in this book they are told in a enchanting thorough way. Jane Ray's ethereal illustrations add a new look to each tale. They captivate the reader and guide the imagination. Each picture and backround is beautifully painted, the attention to detail and colours are hypnotic and will definitely fascinate younger readers. This book is an excellent introduction to fairy tales. It is easy to read and will be suitable for a beginner. The tales aren't too sickly sweet but of course they all end happily ever after.

Recapturing those childhood memories, 27 Jan 2003
By A Customer
If I had had this book as a child, I would never have let it go. These superb old-style, traditional fairy tales are laced with magic and mystery. The combination of the tales and the illustrations transport you back into a time long past, and let you float on a sea of imagination.
Don't get me wrong, this is a children's book, and the stories are short and consice, making them ideal for bedtime, the illustrations will provide hours and hours of amusement and facination. And the gold details found on every page with intrigue fairy princesses everywhere.
Great value for money, with colour and shiny things on every page, nothing too nasty, which might cause nightmares, and fabulous illustrations.
What more can I say? If you haven't got a fairy tale book, get this one, if you want one with pictures, get this one. The only thing is that the stories stay true to the earliest tales, so there is no pumpkin in Cindarella.

A great book, 8 April 2009
The stories are great classics and the illustrations really bring them to life. We bought this book for my 12 year old daughter when she was younger, however, it was slowly ripped to bits by my one year old - nothing personal - everything gets shredded. Even though my oldest daughter is 'too old' for fairy tales she's been insisting that I buy another copy for her to keep. One of the best things about this book is that the illustrations depict different races so beautifully and not as ill-informed stereotypes.
