Product Description

A captivating and witty dark fantasy that will have girls lusting after it.

Morgan Sparks has always known that she and her boyfriend, Cam, are made for each other. But when Cam’s cousin Pip comes to stay with the family, Cam seems depressed. Finally Cam confesses to Morgan what’s going on: Cam is a fairy. The night he was born, fairies came down and switched him with a healthy human boy. Nobody expected Cam to live, and nobody expected his biological brother, heir to the fairy throne, to die. But both things happened, and now the fairies want Cam back to take his rightful place as Fairy King.

Even as Cam physically changes, becoming more miserable each day, he and Morgan pledge to fool the fairies and stay together forever. But by the time Cam has to decide once and for all what to do, Morgan’s no longer sure what’s best for everyone, or whether her and Cam’s love can weather an uncertain future.

This book is...bland, at best. The main character, Morgan, is very shallow, and the reader is given no reason to care about her or her boyfriend Cam. All we hear about Cam is how gorgeous he is, and the only thing I felt for him was pity at having such a rubbish girlfriend. The story is pretty obvious, the writing is very "OMG ROFLCOPTERSKATES AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL FTW YAH". Not good. Not good. The only character you really feel anything for is Pip, who is the one likeable character in the book to be honest. I nearly didn't bother to finish it after reading the first few chapters, but I thought I'd give it a chance. Now I wish I hadn't.

I thought this book was awful. There's no other way for me to describe it. I dithered on even writing a review for it. I never finish books that I think are this bad and I hate bashing books. Just because it's not my cup of tea, doesn't mean to say others won't love it. But this? Ugh. I don't know where to begin.

The writing
I started reading this and thought it was a parody of the sparkly vampire books. And I thought YAY! an author who doesn't take herself or her genre too seriously. I finished it not at all sure as to whether it was a parody or not. I'm thinking not. It was supposed it be funny and sarcastic. It wasn't funny and ended up being sarcastic in all the wrong ways and places, in my opinion. It fell completely flat for me.

The characters
Puddles have more depth than Morgan. Constantly obsessed by her looks and her hotter-than-her boyfriend and how they were *so* perfect together. Her self-centredness grated on my nerves and I felt she had no redeeming qualities. Even her psychic abilities annoyed me. Cam was baffling. Saying one thing and doing the other. He just had no personality or backbone. I couldn't even work out why Morgan was with him other than the fact he was hot (as we were told many, many times), neighbours and shared a birthday. Hello, lack of characterisation! Neither are characters you'd even want your kids to look up to.

The plot
This book is supposed to be primarily about fairies and Cam being their fairy king. We learn almost zip about fairies. My mind filled in the blanks from the other (better) fairy books I have read. I found it was made completely up of filler and "angst" (it wasn't angsty in the slightest, it was fake and whiney) rather than any substantial plot at all.

To me, this book wasn't even merely blah and forgettable, it was complete drivel.

LOVE! 12 Aug 2011
Format:Paperback
I have the day off, so when I woke up this morning I grabbed Fairy Tale and decided to start what I thought would be an amazing fairytale. I was right...I didn't stop reading. I couldn't even put it down to go pee! It's lunch time and I'm finished, and I can't wait to read it again...It was lovely. What a fairytale! I even had tears streaming down my cheeks in the end. I am a sucker for a fairytale romance, and this did not disappoint. YOU MUST READ FAIRY TALE! I loved it! I am still having a glow about me from this wonderful story. I'll be on cloud 9 all day! This is why I LOVE reading!
