Excellent series as are all Miss Read series. A way of life I remember only too well in my childhood and the whole is well penned describing life just, as indeed, it was. One cared about the characters and it's good to know that when the last page of the last book was turned over, all the characters were not gone but simply within the covers of those books to open again whenever one wanted.

Throughly enjoyed this book. Just as you would expect for a village to pull together in a crisis.

A beloved place 6 April 2008
By wogan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Enter the world of an English village. I hope it still exists; the warmth and love that a group of people can and should have despite the problems that can come in everyday life. I have such a deep affection for the people of these small English towns and Miss Read captures them perfectly - the village fetes, the stories of a town and people living their lives.
What must be said, in this day and age, is that it seems hard to find a pure and wonderful book that people like your mother, to use a stereotype, would read. You can be assured they would love this as a gift, but look at Miss Read first and learn why her books are so loved
