About the Author

Samantha Wayland has always dreamed of being a novelist. She wrote her first book as an escape from the pressures of her day job. That fascinating piece of contemporary erotic mystery/suspense with elements of paranormal, international intrigue, and god only knows what else, is safely tucked under her bed, where it will remain until hell freezes over. Since then she’s learned a lot about the craft and turned her attention to writing contemporary MM and MMF Ménage erotic romance. Sam lives with her family—of both the two and four-legged variety—outside of Boston. She used to spend her days toiling away in corporate nerdville but was recently sprung from that hell. Now when she’s not locked away in her home office, she can generally be found tucked in the corner of the local Thai place with a few beloved friends and fellow authors. Her favorite things include mango martinis, tiny Chihuahuas with big attitude problems, and the Oxford comma. Sam loves to hear from readers. Email her at samantha@samanthawayland.com or find her on Facebook (Samantha Wayland) or Twitter (@SamWayland).

If this doesn't float your boat nothing will, with steamy encounters, duct tape and fat lips this got me like not many authors can and it didn't end to abruptly like most do it was a pleasure to read.

.I liked parts of this story but other parts not as much. I did like the hockey background, the Canadian Maritime setting, and both h and H. I thought both main characters were pretty likeable, sweet and good-intentioned, kind of down to earth and unpretentious. The hero is huge, a big 6'5 hockey dude and kind of gentle giant. I thought some of his scenes with the heroine were sexy, but other scenes didn't pull me in as much. I wish there had been more sexual tension between them, especially in the workplace.

I guess this would be considered a small spoiler, not sure, so warning **** Garrick is bi-sexual, and we get some of his sexual past revealed as he tells about his first m/m to the heroine, who finds it a turn on to hear about. It showed they were trusting each other and being open with each other, but overall, I didn't feel a love connection between these two. Felt some attraction, but the love aspect wasn't there for me. I liked h/H, but I didn't feel their romance as deeply as I wanted. I wanted to care more.

Also, I found myself skimming some parts of the story, especially the latter half of the book. I lost some interest there. I didn't feel enough worry/tension and wasn't that concerned about the bully hockey player, the team, or how h/H would ultimately work things out career-wise and relationship-wise.

I'd call this a happy-for-now ending, with possible HEA to be cemented in the next two books. This is book 1, and I guess I thought book 2 would be about another couple, but this is more a continuation series about the same h/H, and with some m/m action to come as a love triangle develops. I'm kind of wary about love triangles, how they work out and how angsty they may turn, so I'm not sure if I'll continue this series or not.

Not a bad read, just not one for me. Kind of left me uncertain about things.

HASH(0x963ae27c) out of 5 stars Holy Hockey Hotness! 28 Oct. 2013
By Jennifer - Published on Amazon.com

When I heard Samantha had written another book, I stopped what I was reading and 1-clicked Fair Play earlier this afternoon. Now it's 2am and I could not put it down. At first, I thought it was starting out a bit slow, but then I got completely sucked into the characters and the life with the Ice Cats, a pro hockey team in New Brunswick. I feel a book hangover coming on. Now that I've seen the trailers for the next two books in the series, I understand a little of the extra dialogue and background. I can't wait for the next one!!

This book is a standalone book that is part of a series. There is no cliffhanger. The next book continues their story in the next stage of their lives.

Would I recommend to a friend: absolutely
Will I re-read this: yup. I see myself keeping this on the kindle for another rainy day.
Will I read more by this author: yes. I read her first two and I'll be reading the rest of this series.
Steaminess: 8 of 10: this not for the faint of heart nor for prudes. But if you are familiar with Samantha's other books, you know she can write hot scenes that have you feeling naughtily like a voyeuer. But the sex doesn't overwhelm the story- it supports it.

Savannah is the new trainer for the team, and the only female trainer in the league, so she has something to prove and a bit of a chip on her shoulder. But once she realizes that these guys are her friends too, her spunk shines through. She is no wimpy princess waiting to be rescued- nope, she can take care of herself. I love that.

Garrick is an older hockey player with only a year or two left in his career. He lusts after her every day as she tapes him up and fixes him after a game, but it's not until something threatens her that he takes action. He's sweet, considerate, but also demanding and dominant- a good combination. Sigh.....

Garrick and Savannah team up against a common enemy- true slimeball- to keep Sav safe. Joining them is a whole cast of characters who seem like the kind of guys I'd love to hang around a pub with.

Overall impression: another solid standalone book by this author. I can't wait for more about Savannah and Garrick.

HASH(0x96b0f600) out of 5 stars Stand Alone Yes, Series Maybe 3 Nov. 2013

Although not in love with this book, I'm definitely head over heals in like with it. I think it had an unfair advantage because I was so in love with her other books. I'm also not sure how I feel about this being a continuation story series that can all possibly be stand alones.

I enjoyed Savannah and Garrick. The love scenes were Samantha Wayland hot. Naughty and scorching. The story was smooth and kept me reeled in. While reading I thought I had a clear picture of who the next books in the series was going to be about, and I was partially correct. One of the characters I thought would be next IS next, but with Garrick....

Fair Play has a HEA and can be read as a stand alone. There are no cliffhangers. You can read it and walk away if you want.

The thing is, now I know it's just a HFN, and I was excited about reading the series. I wish I had known going in the series was going to expand Garrick and Savannah's relationship, because the story ends in a way that doesn't leave the reader (at least me) mentally or emotionally open to them not having a cut and dry HEA. The characters will move towards a possible m/m/f triad over the next two books. This is where Ms.Wayland loses me.

When reading a triad, I prefer the relationship and attraction of all three characters being established in the first book or at least to know it's coming. I love m/m/f triad books, I just need to know that's what's happening. I'm also not crazy about their relationships being established separately. That's not a triad at all. That's just having an open relationship, which is not my thing. This soap operaing it out into three stand alone stories threw me through a loop.

I will read the next in the series, but now it's more out of curiosity than desire to read it. I'm definitely going in with some prejudices and hangups. I was fully prepared for Garrick and Savannah to be secondary characters in the back ground of the next book, not leading characters. I felt done with them by the end of this book, and wish that some of the story line in the next book was set up better, so I could have seen it coming.

Having read Ms.Wayland's other books, I kept waiting for it to go in the triad direction. I also thought it would go in that direction with a completely different character than who is in the next book.

Although, I must add, I didn't feel a loss at all when it didn't happen. Garrick and Savannah are sweet, and so in love. In fact Garrick is so in love with Savannah, other people just aren't attractive to him.

I think Samantha Wayland's making it so each book can be read as a stand alone, which I understand why, but I'm not really into.

So, as a stand alone, yes great book. It's a story that hooks you and killer love scenes that don't take over the whole book. As a series.. the jury is still out.

HASH(0x958468c4) out of 5 stars Less is more 20 April 2014
By Anna - Published on Amazon.com

This book started off really well. I enjoyed the humour and the strong heroine. Savannah and Garrick have a lot of chemistry and their relationship definitely sizzles. However about halfway through, the plot got very convoluted. There was an action story, a business rescue, a mystery, a new career, all in addition to a romance that was getting kinkier. It was quite confusing, and I think that choosing only one of these threads would have made the story a whole lot better.

The Premise
Savannah Morrison is the new athletic trainer for the Moncton Ice Cats, a professional hockey team in the wilds of New Brunswick. She’s doing everything to establish herself in a male-dominated field, and has to deal with being the only straight female under sixty, so she gets hit on working for the Ice Cats. Alot. Matter of fact, the first person to hit on her is Garrick LeBlanc, a twelve year veteran of the EHL. He isn’t ready to retire but he is depending on Savannah to keep him going until he figures out what he wants to do when he’s done playing hockey. Their relationship starts off on the wrong foot, but when the team is put up for sale, Garrick and Savannah have to work together to save their jobs and their team. Somewhere along the way, they discover Garrick isn't just a hockey player, Savannah isn't only passionate about her work, and just maybe they've got more in common than they thought.

My Thoughts
Freebie on amazon - and I was completely surprised at the writing. It’s good. Freebies are a crap shoot, but I’m glad to say that I was pleasantly surprised with Ms. Wayland’s romantic suspense set in a little Canadian hockey town. The plot surrounding the romance is well developed and there’s enough action that takes place that keeps your attention and kept me flipping to the next page to see what will happen next. There is fair amount of really hot, kinky sex (though it is all M/F), but as a reader, I got to know Savannah and Garrick, and there weren’t big moments where their characters didn’t make sense or did things to falsely create some conflict. Savannah has legitimate reasons for being careful in launching a relationship with Garrick. Garrick is an open, easygoing hero who is willing to let Savannah make her moves, his alpha side really coming out in the bedroom, but not overwhelming the rest of the characters. Basically, he’s a very likeable character.

The suspense part of the story has its flaws - Garrick turned investigator wasn’t the strongest and the resolution wrapped up a long time criminal conspiracy pretty easily, but I was willing to suspend disbelief enough to go with it.

This story is the first part of a three book series, but this book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger and there is a resolution to the romance that gives the reader a Happy For Now feeling.

I would warn those who would want to continue that the story shifts from M/F to M/M and eventally MMF and if that’s not your thing, you could end the series on this book and be satisfied IMO, which I really appreciated....though I'm totally going to read the rest of the series, so well done Ms. Wayland - you pulled me in.

The Bottom Line
A surprisingly well developed and well written hockey romantic suspense book. Check it out.
