Book Description

The eighth book in the bestselling Dan 'Spider' Shepherd series.

Kidnapping is one of the cruellest crimes - lives are put at risk for cold, hard cash. But when Somali pirates seize the crew of a yacht off the coast of Africa, they bite off more than they can chew.

One of the hostages has friends in high places and Spider Shepherd is put on the case. He goes deep undercover in an audacious plan to bring an end to the pirate gang's reign of terror.

But as Shepherd closes in on his quarry he realises that there's much more at stake than the lives of the hostages and that the pirates are involved in a terrorist plot that will strike at the heart of London.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spider Rides Again 29 May 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I do like Stephen Leathers style of writing, and the Dan Shepherd books are some of my favourite Stephen Leathers books. I like to go on a journey with my characters, visiting new and old friends and catching up with "Spiders" life. Once again our hero rides to the rescue. Now working for MI5 he is tasked with bringing down a group of Somali Pirates who have links with a terrorist plot to be carried out on the mainland UK.

Fair Game is in the usual roller coaster ride tracking "Spider" from his current mission to his new one. Anyone who enjoys Stephen Leathers books will enjoy "Fair Game"

I think my headline says it all really, but don't let it put you off, it is a very good read but you have to suspend your disbelief. As I have said before, there is a lot of repetition in a Spider Shepherd novel involving his bloody brick filled rucksack, boots and his sporadic family life which starts to grind eventually and although I have just bought "False Friends" book 9 in the series , I am going back and reading "Hard Landing" first, to try and recapture the initial writing style as from memory I don't remember him jogging in that novel.

I buy all the dan shepherd books and enjoy reading them. If you don't know the books, give this one a try. If you know them you don't need a review.

I do get a boated with Dan always asking his son Liam if he has done his homework , this seems to be repeated rather a lot in the Dan Shepherd books

5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent read 5 Jun. 2014

I have only very recently discovered the Spider Shepherd books, and boy, have I made up for lost time! I have read all ten in the series, plus the short stories and have pre-ordered number 11. These are well written thrillers and rattle along at a great pace. If you like action and a decent hero I thoroughly recommend the Spider Shepherd thrillers.

Many twists and turns to this story with exciting conclusion.
Jumps from Ireland, to homelife problems, onward to terrotist activities with our hero rushing around the world, sorting out pirates in Somalia, and a host of ne-er-do-wells; all of which help to keep the pace and interest going to the last page!
