We went to see this in the cinema on a cold dark evening during the recession. We came out feeling happy. The whole audience laughed together and much of the comedy was worked around things that could easily happen to ordinary people.

We were glad we saw it in widescreen before we ordered the DVD, because the views of the castle and surrounding countryside drew you in as a bonus. We enjoyed the soundtrack too as it really supported the emotional journey so we have ordered that too. Cheer yourself up with this film.Faintheart [2008]

Marvelous 22 Mar 2009

Really enjoyed this.As we are a reenactor family, my kids both found someone to relate to in it, and wanted to watch it again the next day.
Gentle, funny and a bit too true in places, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the writing. Some well known faces and a new leading man made it very watchable.

My DVD arrived the Saturday before release which was a nice surprise! If you like small budget British comedies with a romantic feel and some nerdy characters then this is for you. Stand out performance for me was Ewen Bremner as the manager of a sci-fi comic shop who is desperate for a girlfriend. His pal Richard played by Eddie Marsan is the film's lead and is a devoted Viking re-enactor to the expense of his marriage. The film is about his efforts to win back his wife played by Jessica Hynes in a very sour part. Tim Healy is rather underused as the leader of the Vikings. The opening battle scenes are very Gladiator-esque given the slim budget! The locations are well used with Ludlow Castle providing a fine backdrop to the Viking action.

Well worth a look in my book.
