Note from the author:
I wrote this novella because readers wanted to know more about Faelan's past and the mysterious events that propelled him from the 19th to the 21st century. I admit, I wanted to know more as well, so I traveled back into the past. I saw the Mighty Faelan as a small boy, growing up in a clan whose destiny was to protect humanity from demons. I spent time with his family, joined his adventures with his brothers Tavis, Ian, and wee Liam, and later on, his sister Alana. And in the end, I discovered that his past was even more compelling than I had imagined. I invite you to come along and experience Faelan's journey with me.

I read Awaken the highland warrior before this novella. There are a few additional pieces of the story filled in, but I don't think it was necessary to have read it. It was mainly going over events that we already knew about but from his perspective. It's my own fault for not reading them round the right way. If you start with the novella, then it leads you into the first book quite nicely.
I was wondering wether to read this book first as it gives you an insight in the life of one of the main characters. But was very pleased to have saved it and read it in the sequel as it was written. Clenney gets better by the book and we have thoroughly enjoyed this one as we did the previous two.
I love Anita Clenney's previous work. But this reads like a collection of notes. It is a prequel to lend understanding to her other novels. However I would read any of Anita's books, they are well thought out, plot lines are strong and characters are interesting.
