Product Description

CD Description

Fade Out is the extremely overdue reissue of the long out of print album by British band, LOOP. Remastered from the original analogue sources, this album is released as a double discs and housed in a mini vinyl style card sleeve, reproducing the original artwork. The album in its entirety on CD 1, with the bonus tracks (including relevant Peel session material from the time) on CD 2, the bonus material will be available on CD formats only. Fade Out was originally released on Chapter 22 Records in late 88, the Peel session was recorded at that time too: Loop were loosely influenced by bands such as The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, The MC5, but retaining an avant-garde and experimental edge from Can, Faust, Neu!, Rhys Chatham, Glenn Branca and minimalist systems music, to name but a few. As with Heavens end, Fade Out was remastered by Robert Hampson with Kevin Metcalfe at Soundmasters, with the original album on CD 1, and 4 unreleased demo versions, 3 peel session tracks, and the 5 guitar loops(!!!) on CD 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally in a store near you 25 Nov 2008
Format:Audio CD
At last loop's brilliant 1988 album is re-released on cd.
It would have been nice to have some other b side tracks, like Can's 'Mother sky',and The Pop Group's 'Thief of Fire' on the extra disc, especially seeing as they appeared on the last cd version of the album, but anyway you should still buy this version.
Loop never seemed to have the credibility that was given to Spacemen 3 or Sonic Youth, bands that could have been seen as contemporaries.Maybe their hair grew too long at one point(longer than indie regulation shoulder length)or maybe coming from croydon didn't have the alure of coming from new york.
The late 80's was a curious time when noise rock, psychedlia, death metal, industrial and extreme musics seemed to be reaching escape velocity.
It wasn't too much of a surprise when Robert from Loop joined Godflesh who featured Justin Broadrick ex of Napalm Death and then imploded and formed Main who specialised in minimal abstract electronic noise.
The only other band I heard who actually sound like this album was Hawkwind and then only on one track from the early 80's that I know of,repetitive heavy chrome plated space rock with vocals halfway between threatening and drifting and endless spidery soloing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blast from the past!!! 13 Nov 2008
Format:Audio CD
Loop were one of the great innovators of late 80's 90's rock. Criminally forgotten up to now they deserve a new audience. Buy this for the pulverising Collision - is this the only version currently available? Turn it up in a darkened room and you'll start to hear noises you never thought possible. No acid required! Move on to Heaven's End, also re- released, and on to Robert Hampson's work with [main] which makes this stuff sound commercial! Essential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long overdue 15 Feb 2009
Format:Audio CD
Fade Out alone seems like the logical point on the map between Heaven's End and A Gilded Eternity. Like all other Loop releases, it is another example of how this band is woefully overlooked.

The extra tracks round this selection out quite well. Altough the three tracks from a John Peel seesion can be found on Wolf Flow --good luck getting your hands on that-- the demos and different mixes are interesting enough. The guitar loops (I, II, III, IV, V) are a curiosity probably reserved for hardcore fans like this humble reviewer.

Re-issued along with Heaven's End, both will leave you in anticipation for World In Your Eyes and A Gilded Eternity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark corners 6 Jun 2014
By feral
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Loop were always a band out of time, they looked like they should have been hiding in the darker corners of psychedelia, rather than glaring out of a music paper in the day-glo '80s. But that was their attraction, whether we could articulate it or not. Fade Out is my favourite Loop album, which is a ridiculous thing to say as all their songs sound the same; it's just a good song, that's all.
