I bought this book for my son so he could complete a project on Pandas for school, my reasoning being that the short sharp facts would help him quickly form a thorough and accurate piece of work. Boy was I wrong!

This book is full of made up facts plucked from the deepest and darkest depths of the authours imagination, probably while he was smoking a drugs pipe! My son took them all as gospel, completed the project and handed it in to his teacher. Now he's in the remedial class writing on round paper with a pencil wrapped in sponge! He took a plastic pair of scissors in and nearly got suspended!

Now my kids future is ruined, my wife has left me and I'm living in my car eating out of date pot noodles. Thanks a lot David O'Doherty, you've wrecked everything for me!

On the upside my boy has a project on sharks coming up, and I've seen a shark facts book on Amazon which I might get him so we can both show his teacher and my ex-wife that we're not idiots.

The simple truth of the fact is that Pandas are a mildly ridiculous animal. A case could be mounted that they are so badly adapted that they actually deserve to be extinct! A bear that eats bamboo, a food with almost negligible nutrient value, offers a fine vein of humorous opportunity. This book mines that vein with enthusiasm and skill.

The book delights in such nonsense as Mexicans not believing in pandas (if you are reading this in Mexico City or Chihuahua I hate to break the news to you: pandas are real!), pandas being magnetic due to the amount of iron in their livers and that the collective noun for a group of pandas is a "cupboard"! Many of the "facts" about pandas link together in ways which are frankly silly and deeply amusing.

This book cracked up my book loving 7 year old and made me laugh as well.

I have recently learnt that it is impossible to lie when looking into the eyes of a panda. As I am staring into the dark pools of a panda's eyes as I type, you know all I have said about this book is true!

This book would make a great gift for anybody with a sense of humour that leans towards the ridiculous!

Delightful, funny, silly and highly recommended.

Do you know the collective noun for a group of pandas? Do you know what role pandas have played in the development of popular music? Do you know what use old fax machines can be to pandas? If not, you NEED this book! No matter how much you may think you know about pandas, you will doubtless find something new here. Although the cover showing one of these charming black-and-white animals sitting at a desk using a PC may give you a clue that you may need to take some of the facts with a pinch of salt... or bamboo.

this book, this book is bloody marvellous.
david o'doherty, the man who brought us the "extremely low energy musical whimpsy" genre of comedy is back to give us some more of his ELEMW magic.

100 Facts About Sharks is a real eye-opener into the exotic underwater world of sharks. This book reveals more about sharks than almost any other natural history account. Covering all species, it provides amazing insights and useful facts for your quiz team, lift conversations or commuting chats. In three words, this book is: Shark-tasitc, Shark-eriffic and Shark-tabulous!

For those that realise that this is a comedy book, it will also leave you highly entertained. The book is set up with 100 Facts relating to sharks. Each Fact is delivered on a double page spread, with an accompanying image and caption. The images are all very well done and the captions sometimes more insightful (amusing) than the fact itself. The book is reasonably small (about 15x10x1cm), but hardback bound, giving it a nice feel.

Along with it's sister book (100 Facts about Pandas), this covers a wild array of different Facts, that if told with a straight face, could potentially convince people. Some of the Facts are simply absurd, but most are just bizarre enough to make you think 'could that be real?' if told in isolation. For this reason, I like these books.

One a day, or as a coffee table book, you and your friends will enjoy it. It won't take you long to get through it if you read it all in one go, so I'd suggest little and often as the best approach.
