Listening to Faces in the Rocks by the beautiful Mariee Sioux (real name Marie Sobonya), is like growing eagle wings and flying high above misty mountains and vast forests in a time before man conquered the wilderness. Her voice and her finger picking guitar style reminds one of the female folk artists of the 60s, like Joan Baez and Buffy Sainte Marie, but I consider Mariee Sioux a far better singer than both of these icons. Her songs are deeply spiritual and hauntingly beautiful, carried by a remarkable and clean voice which soars and dives through the weaving melodies. One cannot help falling in love with Mariee Sioux on Faces in the Rocks. Her voice and her melodies go straight to the heart.
