Book Description

4 Oct 2007
Gritty. Gripping. Unforgettable. Martina's back.

Just before Danny Cadogan's fourteenth birthday, his father leaves. Having drunkenly run up a gambling debt he cannot pay, Big Dan Cadogan takes the easy way out. Leaving behind his wife and children to face the wrath of the men sent to collect the debt. Determined to protect his mother, brother and sister, something changes in Danny and, overnight, he turns into a young man set on making his way in a violent and dangerous world. He becomes a Face. Not just a Face, but the most feared Face in the Smoke. Out for all he can get. At any cost. But Danny's ruthlessness on the streets of London doesn't stop at his front door. He rules his wife, Mary, and his children, with an iron will - and his fists. But if Mary breaks her silence, it could shake Danny's criminal empire; right to the very core. And for a Face at the top of his game, there's only one way to go. Down. Because, after all, debts can be paid without money. Set in the heart of London's criminal gangland, FACES is gritty, gripping and utterly unforgettable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Money for old rope 24 Oct 2007
Format:Hardcover
What an awful disappointment and a let down to her fans! I have read all of Martina's previous books and had been looking forward to reading this book for weeks. From the second chapter on I started to get more and more frustrated with the repetition, meaningless dialogue and feeble 'plot'. Every third or fourth sentence was a repeat of a previous one (with only the wording being rearranged) and made Martina appear as if she just couldn't be bothered with trying to come up with something different. The lack of substance to the book was insulting to the reader - it just seems to be money for old rope to me. Nothing like earlier books such as Ladykiller, Broken and Dangerous Lady which gripped the reader and made you feel you actually cared for the characters in the book. Pull your socks up Martina with Authors like Mark Billingham, Mo Hayder and the like you'll have to do better than this!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Hugely disappointing 19 Oct 2007
Format:Hardcover
I was eager to read this book having read everything Martina Cole has previously written and been unable to put down from opening at page 1. Faces is the most non-story I think I have ever read. It was repetitious to the point of being annoying and I only kept reading because I was hoping I could find a story which would explain the 500 odd pages of descriptive, repetitive text. What a huge disappointment this book was.

2.0 out of 5 stars What a shame...... 28 Oct 2007
By Whillow
Format:Hardcover
Pretty disappointing, I've read all of Martina Cole's previous books and she's written some brilliant, mesmerising stuff. This was just a churned out amalgamation of some of her other characters but without a storyline, like she'd written it in her sleep as the publication date was due. I have to admit it I got pretty sick of the constant mention of 'Danny Boy Cadogan' and'being a face' that I started to skim read just to get to the end. Please Martina, take some time out and get back to your best!!
