Product Description

Review

"I was first riveted by their portraits of African women at a small gallery in London. Their photographs had such a powerful effect that I was driven to leave home and family to come and see it for myself." --"Africa News"

Product Description

Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher have spent 30 years and travelled more than 270,000 miles to create this collection. Each image unfolds new and revealing perspectives; taken together, they create nothing less than the group portrait of a world that draws strength from shared values and common experiences even as it glories in the unique appeal of every individual. Exploring the vital importance of family and community; the central role of ceremony at every stage of life; and, the deep-rooted attunement to the African landscape and its rhythms - all evoked in text and captions that enhance over 250 stunning photographs with anecdote, information and insight.

I have a lifetime connection with Africa and this is one of the most significant books on that continent I have ever read. These wonderful photographs reveal a deep empathy and understanding as well as being technically first class. Every person who has seen this book has been impressed.

Faces of Africa 4 July 2010
Format:Hardcover
It is the most wonderful book I have ever purchased! It proudly occupies the top place on my bookcase. The pictures are most vivid, incredibly touching. I keep going back to it again and again. I used it for a presentation during the African theme term in a primary school where I am teaching. It has been the best buy I have ever done!
