The title says it all.It could be said to be the manual that describes in clear concise language how to get the best out of Facebook.Set out in very readable text and examples. I am very happy with the purchase.

I was actually hoping that this book would go into into the nitty gritty of how to develop customised pages on Facebook (now that they've gone and changed it again as of Feb-Mar 2011). Given that other Missing Manual books explain the technicalities of code (such as the wonderful "CSS", this wasn't so much of an idle speculation. Sadly nothing, apart from the advice to go buy an App (yes, because I want to either fill up MY pages with advertising or pay a monthly subscription for what was until recently tricky but do-able under FBML).

It's a guide for social networking newbies. Sure it does say fairly helpful information about not being a total dweeb in public. But that's all part of digitally growing up isn't it? Plus a sample profile of a "Benjamin Dover" ..no doubt Ben to his friends....please! (Just think about it). It took me far less time to find the right setting on Facebook to remove my birthday details to preserve against identity theft, than it did to turn off the quote underlinings in Kindle. For me... not at all useful.

I bought this book thinking it would help me resolve problems I had with Facebook, but I was sadly wrong. There are so many gaps, it jumps about, it does not explain things or starts to and then stops. You look up something obvious in the index, and its isn't there. Confused with Facebook, I am more confused with this book. I do not even bother taking it off the shelf now, I either look for an online forum to solve my problem or use trial and error. One of my less useful Amazon purchases I think.
