Face of an Angel as it has been named in this country, is a very touching film about Dorothy Dandridge played by Halle Berry. It tells the story of a beautiful and talented woman who made some terrible decisions in both her career and personal life. We are given some very important insights into her upbringing, her actress mother and the 'Special friend' who terrorised her young life, her mentally disabled daughter, intimacy problems, failed marriages and ultimately addiction.
Through all her troubles, of which there are many, there is one man who wants to protect her, her manager Earl Mills brilliantly played by Brent Spiner. It has to be said that this film makes you wonder why we do not see more of this man in film. There are some particularly touching scenes between Spiner & Berry, when she hits rock bottom he finds her, comforts her, and sings to her. Anyone with any sentimental streak at all will find this increadibly moving.
There is a good supporting cast full of familiar if not hugely famous faces. This is a must see for any Spiner or Berry fans out there, and if you haven't heard of either of them, BUY THIS FILM, you don't know what you are missing.
