Sad Cafe's 1979 album represents their commercial peak, but should also be remembered for its range and depth. It was produced by Eric Stewart, which shows, as there are occasional traces of 10cc's production values.
This is melodic rock, featuring edgy vocals from Paul Young, memorable riffs, a solid rhythm section, and Vic Emerson's eloquent, dramatic keyboard arrangements. All of the tracks are superb.

The three hits demonstrate the band's versatility: powerful ballad ('Every Day Hurts'), leftfield rock ('Strange Little Girl') and bluesy raunch ('My Oh My'). 'Nothing Left Toulouse' is weighty pop, while 'Take Me To The Future' has a harder edge and 'Crazy Oyster' has a heavier r& b feel. 'Angel' is a mid-paced rocker based around a memorable riff, while 'Emptiness' and 'Get Me Outta Here' are straighter rock items. 'Time Is So Hard To Find' is new to me. It's a lighter track, but not out of place. My original vinyl copy featured a song called 'Cottage Love' in its place, though I was aware at the time that this track was not included on all releases. I have a feeling this CD contains the US track listing. There is no obvious reason why both tracks could not have been included here, but this is still a great release.

Its been many years since this album was available, but the wait was well worth it. This third album from Sad Cafe is the one that produced their greatest hits and although more 'poppier' than the first two it is no less pleasing to the ear. Fine vocals from the late Paul Young are backed by soaring keyboards of Vic Emerson and fine guitar work of Ashley Mulford, Ian Wilson and John Stimpson, driven by the drums of Dave Irving and rounded out by Lenni on sax. Everyday Hurts is probably the best known track followed by a very Rolling Stones style My Oh My. What else is needed? Well the first two albums would be great as would the Live album which shows how good Sad Cafe were live for those who missed them the first time.
