Being new to foundation or paper piecing, I wasn't sure where to start. Boy, did I land on my feet! This book is great for anyone who wants to get really sharp points and interesting designs for stars. Instructions are clear and the designs are versatile and interesting. Instructions are given for how to use a photocopier to resize the patterns to produce various size blocks and also how to combine elements of various stars to create entirely new designs of your own. The DVD which is included is instructional for anyone who hasn't used this method before. It has certainly inspired me to try something new. Stars vary in difficulty, but there is something here for all levels of experience.

The book arrived in good condition. I believe that of all the books I've read on paper piecing, this author's technique is the best. After reading her "how to" pages (which also gives lots of tips and types of notions to use to make your life a little simpler!)... the best was watching her on the CD-Rom that was included. Very helpful! I also really enjoyed looking through the variety of stars, which go from very simple to do ... to very complex. Thank you Carol Doak!

this is quite an interesting book for paper pieced stars although several are very similar (or the same just done in different colours) so i was disappointed in that respect

I bought this book as a tool in my small teaching group, having introduced them to the this method of patchwork using another of Carol Doak's paper piecing books. This book of star blocks looks so complicated, but the method is the same, and the way it is explained and illustrated is very good and makes it achieveable even for relative beginners to the craft. Each of the blocks has a separate page showing the actual block, an illustration depicting 4 blocks (which shows the secondary pattern achieved) and the facing page has miniature diagrams of the block (for you to colour in using colours of your choice) and then full size diagrams to trace or photocopy to make the block. The only negative on this book is that it cannot be photocopied without mutilating the book as it will not lie flat. I had to have the spine cut off and then hole punched the pages and put into a ring binder to make this a working tool. Would be SO much better if it had been ring bound.

The worst bit about foundation piecing is marking out on vylene. When you can photocopy and get rid of the paper backing altogether with the same results - brilliant!!

Great book. The Disc supplied with it was super and very easy to follow. This was my first time paper piecing so followed the disc exactly and within half an hour I was totally hooked. The reason I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars was that the disc will only play on a computer and not through a DVD player. I would have loved to put it up on the large screen.

Not sure if a beginner would find it easy though a CD does give them. I bought the book because I have been foundation piecing for many years. Why not have a go.

I am really interested in learning paper-pricing, so ordered this book in the hope it would teach me the technique. I was not disappointed, It is a very detailed book with good instructions, so I am sure that I will be able to master it (eventually).
