Kenso - Their Best Studio Album

Of the three Kenso albums that I own this one is my favorite. The band changes its sound in a heavier direction flirting with progressive metal at times on this one. Fans of the band's older material may be put off by this, but I really like what they do here. The lineup is the same that played NEARfest when I saw them and these guys can really tear it up in a live environment. I think this album comes the closest to capturing their live sound of the studio albums I have. The playing on this album is fantastic and everyone gets a chance at the spotlight. The compositions are as good as anything this band has done. If you ever get the chance to see this band live make sure to go for it, and this album would be my recommendation to look into the band if you have not heard them.

La musica dei Kenso può essere definita come una via di mezzo tra il jazz-rock ed il prog-rock con venature a volte hard e a volte heavy, con innesti di musica tradizionale giapponese e l'utilizzo, in quest'ultimo caso, di strumenti della tradizione etnica "made in Japan". Il livello tecnico dei musicisti è davvero molto alto, ma la loro non è mai una semplice esibizione delle loro doti fine se stessa. Nelle loro composizioni c'è molta inventiva.
Il cd ha bisogno di più ascolti per essere assimilato a causa della poca immediatezza dei brani, ma alla fine si resta davvero impressionati e soddisfatti. A chi somigliano i Kenso? Somigliano ai Kenso! Buon ascolto.
