Product Description

Product Description

Weavers will love this intriguing collection of projects in fabrics that magically defy the flat plane, and bend, pucker, bump, and pleat. This comprehensive work begins with in-depth information about the unusual structures and fibres that add dimension. Inspiring photographs show an appealing range of projects: scarves, shawls, bags, totes, jackets, jewellery, and more. Techniques include collapse, pleats, seersucker, waffle weaves, cord weaves, and honeycombs. A wide range of special finishing tips are featured. Even more valuable than the project details is the confidence this wealth of information gives readers to continue to explore an exciting subject. The book gathers under a single cover more than thirty out-of-print articles from Weaver's magazine and Prairie Wool Companion. For over twenty years, these magazines have served as primary sources of instruction, innovation, and inspiration in the world of handweaving.

Fabrics that go Bump - exactly what it says in the title, weaving with dimension. This book explores the endless possibilities of weaving and taking it onto another level for us handweavers that have re-discovered the ancient art of weaving.
Each chapter covers a particular effect in order to complete several projects from pleated scarves to honeycomb baby blankets and even a coat for your wee dog! Covering in depth 'ribs and cords', 'honeycomb and waffles', 'pleats, ridges and furrows' and 'puckers and poufs', this book explores creating exciting fabrics.
It is a definitive collection of useable fabrics woven on your own hand loom and concentrates on fabric structure to create the effect rather than to use fancy yarns. From design to finishing techniques, this book covers all what us beginners need to know in order to perfect our own weaving skills.

Haven't had time to actually try any of the features in this book--it was purchased for a time in a couple of months when I will be returning to weaving.

Was a little disappointed in the contents, but could tell you more at some time in the future when I've used some of the features.
