In my opinion, this release is a long time coming from one of THE pioneers of Drum n Bass. LTJ Bukem delivers a musical journey of quality tracks. This is easily the best Fabriclive dnb mix since Marcus Intalex, and for those of you who haven't heard that, believe me it was quality - the reviews of it on this website say it all!
Bukem goes up another level showcasing an exemplary selection of "musical" drum n bass, most of which are from his highly respected Good Looking label. The tracks are vibrous and rolling with quality breaks and basslines with influences of jazz in places. This mix reminds me of the stuff that was out around 10 years ago, but it sounds modern with up to date breaks and sound quality.
For those of you who love Bukem's "partner in crime" MC Conrad, you may be disappointed that he does not play a part in this release. This is purely Bukem spinning a flawless mix.
If you have heard LTJ Bukem in the mix before, then I don't really have to explain the style of drum n bass he plays. All I will say is if you love "music" fused with top drum n bass, then you will love this! Wicked stuff!!

A nice little mix from Bukem.
Lacks a bit of variety at times on the breaks front, but he rolls out the mix in perfect Bukem style with a good selection of liquid tunes.

I've briefly read over the other reviews and think they all give a fairly good account of what this mix is about. It's true that this set doesn't sound especially different to what Bukem was doing in the late 1990s, but I for one was quite glad. When Bukem set up Good Lookin' records for a second spell, there was always the danger it wouldn't appeal to it's original audience due to times changing. But unlike quite a few DJs of the modern era, Bukem has always delivered for his own fans and maintained high quality music within the perimeters he has set.
For me, the original Logical Progression (1996) is the seminal Bukem moment and the true 'must hear' album at the soulful end of Drum 'n' Bass'. This fabric doesn't reach those dizzying heights, but it's a good addition to any electronic music fan's collection.
I think there is just enough variation across the Cd to keep it fresh, as some take a more jazzy and soulful approach, others are slightly more thumping, and we even get the odd light orchestral moment in amongst the beats. Bukem puts in a few DJ tricks into this mix, which don't especially add anything, but it shows he was enjoying himself when putting the mix together.
Whilst this is neither his best Cd or the best of the fabric collection, it's really great to have a taste of Bukem in the late 2000s, and hopefully will lead to much more to come from the man. It's a good, solid, but pleasant mix. You can play it as background music, stick it on your ipod when out for a run or turn it up for a party. It works on many levels, so I'd definitely recommend it.

just what you would expect
Decent tracks, good mixing, it just sounds pretty much like this stuff did about 7 years ago. Dissapointed.
