Synopsis
The ElectroTextiles company was set up in 1998 to research and develop smart fabrics. This text explores the qualities of ElekTex; a lightweight, durable, flexible and cost competitive technology. It's primary goal is to offer a soft alternative to the hard edged character so often a trait of contemporary electronic product design. Through photographs and diagrams the work demonstrates the possibility of this product as related to keyboards and remote controls. It highlights opportunities in developing contoured and portable products for both existing and emerging product markets. The ability to dispense with fixed casings, rigid mountings and inflexible substrates opens up radically new possibilities in flexible, user-friendly interfacing.
