Something different next month please Fabric!, 17 Jan 2008
For the first time since I joined, I'm seriously considering cancelling my FabricFirst membership. That's not because this months CD is really bad, it's not, it's just yet another slightly tedious minimal house/techno mix and I want to hear something different.
I used to love getting my Fabric mix CD in the post every month but I can't seem to get that excited any more. If you read my reviews you'll think I hate minimal techno. I don't, I love it, but I guarantee the scene will disappear up it's own backside soon if some more original players don't emerge. M.A.N.D.Y are key players on the Berlin circuit and I'm a big fan of their productions and remixes which is why I was looking forward to their Fabric CD. Instead of blowing me away with a finely mixed tapestry of wonderful, fresh house and techno, they take the safe option a la. Marco Carola. Simply mix a load of very similar minimal together, stroke your chin and act like you are on a higher intellectual musical plain and enjoy the rave reviews from magazines who won't want to criticize you because this is the fashionable style. There are no discernible changes in tempo or genre, it just plods along, never really drawing you in. On the plus side, they have packed over 20 tracks in so they aren't lazy, it's just a shame most of the tracks are so alike. There are some notable tunes by Booka Shade and DJ Yellow but overall I wouldn't recommend this to someone I was trying to convert to dance music. I would be interested to hear a future mix by M.A.N.D.Y's label mates Booka Shade but not too soon please, I want another Glimmers mix.

Exciting stuff, from top to bottom, 7 April 2008
This is a consistently efficient minimal and tech house mix by M.A.N.D.Y. One needs to only gaze at the tracklisting to quickly notice how many of the major players in the minimal and techno scene are on tap: Booka Shade, Gui Boratto, Dubfire, DJ Yello, Toni Rios, Robag Whrume, and Lopazz. Even not hearing any of their tracks featured on here, it's almost a sure fire sign that the mix is going to be a hit. This theory is sound, because after playing this mix, there isn't a dull track in sight, with track after track of quality and classy techscapes. M.A.N.D.Y. has consistently shown they have an extreme talent for choosing interesting and top notch tracklists for their mixes, as evidenced by their previous CD mix releases, and even on a freebie CD mix that came with Mixmag magazine.
If it's the current best of tech house you're after, it's offered up here in one tidy little place. Just as Marco Carola's Fabric 31 kicked off 2007 with a stunning mix of this musical genre, M.A.N.D.Y.'s here to lead is into '08.

Creative, but lacking. , 29 Feb 2008
I have always favoured the Fabriclive section to the Fabric section because I find there is more substance in the Fabriclive editions, there is more energy and more umphh.. for want of a better word.
I find this technically, a very good mix, full of subtle changes through all styles of minimal house, but to take a look at the artists on this album, i thought it would have been slightly better.
Don't get me wrong it is a very good choice of artists to compile, it just doesn't deliver exactly what I wanted, there are some lulls in the compilation that leave you wanting abit more.
Apart from the above it is a very good choice of songs, mixed very very well, producing an overall good compilation for minimal house fans.
