As someone has pointed out, if you are considering buying this you already know about the story and what not. Let alone you're looking at the second book in the deluxe series, so this is a straight product review. But if I had to give my two cents on the story and everything, it's wonderful. It's has everything for both men and women to enjoy with a great sense of atmosphere for both the child at heart and for those looking for something a bit mature.
The quality of the book is amazing. It has a great spine and tight binding that keeps each page in check. One of the many reasons I bought this was because my copy of the second book "Animal Farm" was falling apart because the glue was coming off and also...because I bought it at Books-A-Million...
This edition collects issues #11-18, the complete third book "Storybook Love;" the short story "A Wolf in the Fold", which can found in first book "Legends in Exile;" and also "The Last Castle" one-shot, which is found in fourth book "March of the Wooden Soldiers." ("The Last Castle" is listed as a graphic novel on the back of the cover but it can still be considered a one-shot and is canon.) The story is printed beautifully on glossy paper and giving the colors a brighter look than what can be found on the newspaper style trades. Under the dust-jacket is just a textless reprint of the cover. The only real extras you get are a few sketches from each of the artist who worked n the comics.
All in all, this gets a solid 5 out of 5. My only problem with this is that we have to wait so long for a new edition to come out. Yes, it looks great on the shelves and can handle the wear and tear of everyday life; but in the end, for a series to have well over 15 books to its name you only have "technically" book 1-4, and that's even if you pick up the third deluxe book, that starts to become tiresome. But I have hope, and maybe with sales picking up Vertigo will start releasing more in the coming years.
