Book Description

Set out on a journey of unlimited adventure!

FABLED LANDS is an epic FIGHTING FANTASY type gamebook series with the scope of a world like SKYRIM. You can choose to be an explorer, merchant, priest, scholar or soldier of fortune. You can buy a ship or a townhouse, join a temple, undertake desperate adventures in the wilderness or embroil yourself in court intrigues and the sudden violence of city backstreets. You can undertake missions that will earn you allies and enemies, or you can remain a free agent. With thousands of numbered sections to explore, the choices are all yours.

At the Court of Hidden Faces, no one is who they seem. The sinister lords of the Uttakin go masked to hide their treachery. The secret police of the god Ebron kill those who flout their fanatical codes. In this tyrannical realm of betrayal and assassination, life is cheap. But rich rewards await the adventurer courageous enough to penetrate this hostile land.

Will you uncover the secrets of the High King’s citadel, where no mortal has trod for ten generations? Or wrest the holy sword from the crypt of Kizil Irmak, the Harbinger of War? Or find the key that unlocks the greatest secret of all – the means to open the gate of Time and travel back into the past?

Your fate is in your own hands. You choose your skills, your goals, where you will venture and what you will do. The only limit is your imagination.

The choices are all yours. And success will give you the powers to venture ever deeper into the amazing role-playing world that is Fabled Lands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gem of the genre 16 Aug 2012
By Norman
Format:Paperback
It can be said without hyperbole that Fabled Lands is the best, most imaginative and most entertaining fantasy settings ever conceived for the gamebook genre. A lost classic of the 90s, the original editions hit shelves just as the original gamebook boom was winding down, and a combination of ambitious production values and unfortunate timing doomed the half-finished series to undeserved obscurity. The vivid descriptive writing is of a quality that rivals or perhaps even exceeds that of Lone Wolf creator Joe Dever, and the sandbox format make the series massively replayable, with numerous adventures of varying degrees of difficulty to be found in exotic and original environments. The player can end up covered in glory or dead in a ditch, an aimless wanderer or an (in)famous hero. Even with only six books published, there is still a large continent to explore, as well as neighbouring seas and islands, and you can have plenty of thrills and spills with just one book.
Number 5 is probably the best of the series, as the cruel courtesies of the Uttakin, with their byzantine court politics and fanatical religion, are probably the most original and interesting of Morris and Thompson's creations. Play the dangerous game of winning influence amongst the ruthless Uttakin nobility, or try to restore the High King and free Old Harkuna from their harsh yoke...

5.0 out of 5 stars Back at long last! 15 Aug 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
One of the greatest books in the whole Fabled Lands series is finally back in print! The Uttakin lands contain some of the most amazing stories in the realms, including finally owning your own castle. Who wouldn't want that? You can even get involved in the slave trade if you have no heart or humanity left after mixing with the masked denizens of the palace. And have you seen the market in Aku? Do yourself a favour and help contribute to the continued success of the series.
