Product Description

Synopsis

In this volume, a selection of Faberge eggs - fantasies created by the House of Faberge to divert the Russian imperial family - are presented larger than life-size. The jewelled, enamelled and gold decorations and the whimsical "surprises" hidden inside - tiny singing birds, miniature portraits, flower baskets, crowing roosters - can be examined in detail. The examples reproduced in this book are from the largest single group of Faberge eggs in private hands, the Forbes Magazine Collection, which is on display in the Forbes Building in New York. It comprises 14 large and 40 miniature eggs. The book also contains a catalogue raisonne of all known Faberge eggs, illustrated with line drawings.

An exquisite book, large format. Beautiful color plates. If you get one book on Faberge for the quality of its plates, this is it.

Wanted to see photos having seen a program on TV. Would have liked even more colour photos! Very reasonable condition for a "pre loved" book. Came in an enormous packet which proved to be excellent protection, although I wondered what I had purchased when it arrived!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect foil to the exhibit 21 Nov 2003
By Avid Reader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
While in Moscow, we were able to see the traveling exhibition of Faberge eggs and pick up this book. The exhibition itself was stunning - the individual settings were chosen especially for the particular egg, the accompanying commentary intriguing, the lighting spectacular.
The only thing that compared to the eggs themselves was this book which is one of the best of its type. It is large and the photographs and descriptions lush. One is transported back in time to the days of Tsars and Orthodoxy and the now disappeared Russian craftsmanship. This is a must for your coffee table.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous! 26 April 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

This book is amazing! The oversized photos are mezmorizing. I am a collector of the small egg charms used in the Czarina's Maria Feodorovna's necklace. I was thrilled to see photos of many of the egg charms I own. I love this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but "Faberge Eggs" by Pfeffer is Better 17 Mar 2013
By Ron Santos - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this book and it is good. Also, I got the book, "Faberge Eggs: Masterpieces from Czarist Russia" by Susanna Pfeffer. Overall, considering photos, text, and completeness, I like the one by Pfeffer better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book - Not Thorough Enough 12 Dec 2012

I don't know how to explain this adequately. The photography and artistic way the eggs were depicted were excellent, but they didn't show all the eggs or even the majority of them. The ones that were shown were gorgeous and made you want more. So if the old adage is correct, "always leave them wanting more," this is the perfect book for you. It's still excellent, just not "complete" in my opinion.
