Sadly this seems like it could be the last Fates Warning album(I hope I'm wrong!),but it's actually very good and shows the band still have relevance in the Noughties.Following on from the "Disconnected" album 4 years before, the band continue their interesting experiments combining Metal/Prog with electronic music, particularly in the rhythm department. This works excellently throughout the album creating a wonderful mix of styles and many different atmospheres. As always with Fates Warning there is some great guitar work from the great acoustic feel of "Left Here" & "Another Perfect Day" to the crunching metal of "Simple Human" & "Heal Me".
This album is not too different from the O.S.I stuff that Jim Matheos is doing now,so if you are a fan of them this should meet your requirements.
Otherwise,if you want another excellent Fates Warning album(there are so many..!)do not hesitate to buy FWX.

10th studio album from Fates Warning, and "FWX" notches up the standard- from the previous couple of albums, once more. Songwriting' is once again at the album's heart, with the subtle opener 'Left Here'. 'Simple Human' is a FW favourite from mine, with it's generous metallism and armory of trademark sounds which I've come to love from this band. Elsewhere, the truly intoxicating 'River Wide Ocean Deep', is a progressive metal classic with all the nuances and the clever infiltration of sounds that only FW could cut.

The following four or five songs proceeding this:- consist of the usual vibrancy and metallic vibrations of the FW progressive formula, with also perhaps, a smattering of "Redemption". This ultimately leaves the remaining song 'Wish' to close the album. It is most certainly a very worthy arrangement, as it is one of the best cuts from the CD. It takes a rather slow time to get going, (isn't this the beauty of progressive metal music!.) but the results are supremely meritocratic from a over-glancing analysis.

But what do we have here?!..., It is, or was; the finest FW CD since the '91 epic of 'Parallels', but this was all so shattered, and ultimately obliterated by the return of the band with 2013's, 'Darkness In A Different Light'. On this disc, there are a couple of big standouts, followed by numerous excellent 'prog' standards. The only weak link I can identify here is the transient mover of 'Sequence'. But that all said; this Alder, Zonder, Vera, & Matheos line-up is self-explanatory. This one remains a strong entry into the band's glorious career, and looks set to remain-so.
