For quite a while I have been looking for something to back up my cassette collection.
I got this last week & sent it back for a refund
This was not Amazon. It was a shopping channell
I found this not compatable with my ms. vista 32 bit.& was flimsy with a noisy motor.

It may be worth mentioning that some computers will not power this unit from usb ports as they do not have enough power-and you will have to use batterys
I contacted the importer, who promised to ring back-and didnt.
A utter waste of time all round!

This is a portable cassette player (Walkman type) with a USB connection. The supplied software didn't work, and when I contacted the email help, I was told that: "We have noted a small number of users are experiencing a problem with their software. This problem can occur on all operating systems. The problem is due to an as-of-yet undiagnosed incompatibility between the cassette software and the configuration of the individual PC being used. Our software team is investigating the issue and we regret that we are unable to provide a solution at this time. We therefore advise you to use a different software program called Audacity".

I downloaded the Audacity software, and was then able to convert the tapes to MP3 files.

There are are several points to note:

1) You could do exactly the same thing using a standard portable cassette player, and connecting the headphone output to the audio input of your PC.

2) The quality of the sound is not great - there is audible background noise. Much better results are obtained by using a cassette player on a Hi-fi system, and connecting the line output to the PC. I have done this for some time and I only bought this device because my hi-fi cassette player appeared to be broken.

3) I cannot play the tapes directly on my PC. I can only do this using the Audacity software. There may be some audio settings which enable this but I have been unable to find them.

4) I acquired a bug in my PC while downloading the Audacity software which required a System restore - this may have been nothing to do with the download but I haven't bothered to download Audacity again. I have used software called Total Recorder (not free) for some time, and find this works very well for a variety of audio recording jobs.

I have been tinkering with the idea of purchasing a cassette to MP3 device for some time and after reviewing the comments about the ION device I decided to go with this unit instead and I'm pretty happy that I did. The unit is quit well made and has a solid feel to it. The installation of the software is very simple and was up and running within 5 minutes.

The item does exactly what it says on the tin, and I would of given it a 5 apart from a few little issues with the software, these are the software will automatically set a file name for the MP3 which is being recorded which can only be re-named once the conversion has completed, and on a few times when I have completed the recording the software reports an error and shuts down, but a as a work around I have found if you pause the recording first then stop it the software does not crash.

With all said and done this is a great little device to transfer cassettes to MP3's

I bought the above. Having loaded the software an icon appears on my computer (bottom right)
"Please connect USB Cassette".It appears not to recognise the Cassette itself although it has power from
the USB & plays cassettes on the headphones OK. Having contacted the supplier I was told " This problem can occur on all operating systems. The problem is due to an as-of-yet undiagnosed incompatibility between the cassette software and the configuration of the individual PC being used. Our software team is investigating the issue and we regret that we are unable to provide
a solution at this time. We therefore advise you to use a different software program called Audacity, which can be downloaded free of charge" Although this works it I have to say that "Fit for Purpose" comes into question on this product,
I do not believe that it is value for money with the email acknowledging your "software team are unable to provide a solution at this time" Software that was bought as part of the package. I have returned the unit for a full refund.

The company that sold me this device were brilliant. They delivered it extremely quickly, so quick that I wasn't expecting it! The product arrived in good condition with all parts.

The product itself is easy enough to use. However, I would recommend not installing the software that comes with it. Just use the sound recorder than comes with Windows. For some reason I could never get the software to see the device, I'm using Windows 7, so I just recorded using the sound recorder mentioned.

All in all, an excellent product!

Verified Purchase
The unit is cheap looking and when playing tapes through earphones, you can hear the motor humming. I loaded the software supplied, but it wouldn't recognise the device. I, like some other people was told to use Audacity. Well, if you ask me, that is an audacity! I bought this item because of the so-called ease of use with a USB connection and bundled software.
Why should I then use someone else's software and through an audio link, not a USB?
I already had a perfectly good walkman that I could have used in this way. Fortunately, I was able to obtain a refund from the supplier, but of course, I had the inconvenience of having to parcel it all up and return it. And exchange several e-mails with the supplier.
