Not sure what the other reviewer is talking about. This phone is great. Excellent quality on incoming and outgoing calls. Very convenient as I don't need to tie up my PC with Skype. I have no complaints whatsoever. I have skype-in and skype-out so for the most part this feels and acts like a regular phone
Some things to keep in mind: (1) The phone is small and may look more like a toy then an office phone. Other than that it is very convenient and worth the money (2) There is no physical reset, but this can always be done by unplugging the phone and letting it re-boot up. So what's the big deal? There may be a way to do a reset via the soft buttons as well. (3) Does take a good 40 seconds for it to boot up and connect to the Internet when it boots up.
Some improvements: Include a ring tone that is like a regular phone's. Add the option of connecting to a secure wi-fi network as opposed to just LAN cable.
Overall I am very happy with the product
--- UPDATE: April 15, 2012 ---
Well it's little over a year since I had this item (purchased it on 4/6/2011). I use this phone primarily to make calls to land-lines. Based on feedback I've received from clients on the other end, voice quality is very dependent on how I position the receiver relative to my mouth as well as my internet connection. My clients often say they hear static on the line or the quality is not very clear. However, sound quality improves dramatically if I restart/reboot my cable router and the FreeTalk Phone at least once a week. In all cases I can hear my clients clearly. Finally keytones don't work with all IVR systems. I'd say about 90% of IVR systems can pick-up the Freetalk's keytones.
Also, the phone does freeze and auto-reboot about 10% of the time when you try to switch skype accounts.
I have a business class (10MB/s download and 1MB/s upload) Internet service from my cable provider. There is only my laptop that shares that connection. Running the VOIP quality test, my connection consistently rates anywhere between 89% to 98% for Quality of Service. I did notice that my connection does degrade down to the 89% if I don't reboot my router regularly, so the sound issues might be my Internet connection and not the Freetalk.
I will note that the sound quality for Skype-to-Skype calls is par-excellence. I've always noticed improved sound clarity when I call folks directly via their Skype accounts. Unfortunately that's only for personal calls and not for business.
Finally the phone has held up well. Really it just sits on my desk so there is no real abuse to it. However, I did noticed is that the downward menu soft button has become somewhat sticky. Not really an issue but thought I'd mention it.
Despite these issues, I'm giving it 4 stars because:
1. The primary vendor and distributor, ebuynow, is VERY responsive and wants it's customers to be satisfied. Be warned you might not receive the same level of support from other distributors/vendors
2. Although not the ideal solution, the sound quality problem is temporarily resolved with a router/freetalk phone reboot. Besides, it's possible that the quality issues are with my Internet connection and not with the phone itself.
3. This is the only product that functions as a freestanding Skype phone on the market!
