If you're struggling with social theory, then the 'for Beginners' series is definitely for you. This book summarises the main works of Foucault such as 'The History of Sexuality', 'Discipline and Punish' and 'Madness and Civilization' in a few cartoon-filled pages. Although a lot of the details of Foucault's work are inevitably lost, it will give you a good basic idea of his major contribution to philosophy and social theory.

Easy Really ... 14 Jun 2002
Format:Paperback
This is the best 'Idiot's Guide' to Michel Foucault that I have come across. Having been locked in life and death struggle with the great man for a while now, it was a relief to come across something which laid out his concepts so clearly and simply. Lydia Fillingham also puts his ideas aptly in their social and cultural settings, giving them human scale and realistic continuity. From here, I can progress, cant I ...?

Foucault for Beginners 8 April 2010
Format:Paperback
This is a short, simple book which provides a refreshingly approachable introduction into some difficult concepts. Thankfully, unlike many books on Foucault, it has not been translated, so there are no language barriers to prevent understanding. Indeed, the reader is helped even further by illustrations on every page to clarify any point missed in the text. Far from being patronising though, this book is fun and highly recommended to anyone about to read Foucault, and even more, to anyone who is already reading Foucault and struggling with it.
