CLC Floodtide Reviews - January 1991

Gordon Macdonald, who always writes with conscientious care and deep sincerity, here takes a contemporary phrase, "the real world" and examines what it means to a Christian. He shows how it comprises the "heavenly places" of Paul's teaching, the inner life of the individual and the life of the "streets". This threefold division makes up the body of the message and we cannot question that it represents the truth about every believer's life.

Product Description

The author discusses the challenge of developing a spiritual perspective that integrates rather than insulates, including a right relationship with God and recognizing our own particular gifts as unique. The author is senior pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in New York City.

4.0 out of 5 stars Having a Christian Faith in the "Real World", 18 July 2006
By Michael Taylor "Michael Taylor" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Forging a Real World Faith (Hardcover)
Forging a Real World Faith is another one of Gordon McDonald's challenges to Christians to carefully evaluate how their lives are being used by Jesus Christ to advance God's Kingdom.

Among the points discussed include:

1. Being a Christian does not mean we have to suspend our intellect, emotions, and personality.
2. Good notes on Daniel living a life of integrity in a brutal culture.
3. Relatively few people really make an all-out effort to really know God.
4. 6 various instincts of Christ followers - their personality, how they seek God, and biblical examples of each.
5. Daniel was God's person and managed himself according to God's laws instead of man's laws.
6. When a church becomes too inward, the members can become too tame in their faith and not engage the world.
7. Excellent thoughts on the godly qualities Daniel had so he could prosper in a godless culture.
8. Having a dream larger than yourself will motivate you.
9. Jesus knew that the Father, not Pilate, was in charge.
10. Questions to ponder about having Christ's influence in the workplace.

A challenging and enjoyable read. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Really challenging book that makes one's faith complete, 18 April 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Forging a Real World Faith (Hardcover)
This book of Gordon MacDonald is the first book that I've read of this challenging author. He let's you think differently about one's life and ofcourse, one's faith. He created a new term: real-world. The real world isn't only the streets we live in, but also the Heavenlies is the real world, and the inner self of a human being. These three 'worlds' together is the 'real-world'. First does one need to follow Christ into the real world of the Heavenlies, then follow Christ into the real world of the inner self, and then into the streets we live upon. By doing this, one can have a faith that will fit every situation. A faith that is complete. Take the hammer in your hands, and go working at your faith! I can recommend this book to everyone! A life-changing book!
