Product Description

The easiest to use, most powerful, full featured micro light available. Intuitive single-button operation provides quick, easy access to a full range of features including fully adjustable brightness and multiple strobe and signaling functions. All it takes is a simple squeeze of the button to give you instant full power illumination at any time. To dim the light once it is turned on, simply press and hold the button to dim the light to the desired level. Pressing and holding the button when the light is already off will turn it on at the lowest level and allow you to gradually increase the brightness to give you just the amount of light you need to accomplish your task without disturbing your night vision or disrupting those around you. When needed, the four safety strobe functions (fast, medium, slow, SOS) can be accessed by continuing to hold the button down. Once the light has dimmed or brightened fully, it will proceed to cycle through the various strobe functions. Simply release the button when you reach the desired beacon mode. An additional signaling mode can be accessed by tapping the button several times in rapid succession. When in the signaling mode, the Freedom Micro will behave like the squeeze-only Photon I, with the light turning on only while the button is pressed and off when it is released. To exit the signaling mode and return the light to normal operation, simply press and hold the button for several seconds until the light turns off. A great addition to the famous Photon range.

I used to use those cheap and very similar LED keychains from dealextreme, like 2$ per 10. This one is more expensive but also worth it. Build quality is far better and it has more modes and beam is stronger. I chose the green version as it gives light at night without getting our eyes used to it. I mean the moments when you turn on and off white light in the dark, your eyes kind of hurt and have to get used to dark/light/dark/light ;) with green light no problem.

The added clip and the lanyard might be useful (the clip has little magnets so you can attach it to metal surface, and you can move the clip 360 degrees). The only disadvantage is that its inconvinient to carry the light and the clip with f.e. your keys. I carry only the light with my keys- on a small carabiner it's a nice set ;) no wonder that the astronauts reveived them to be used in the space :))

For the money, there really isn't anything as reliable or that functions as well and offers the lighting options that these do.

I have over 8 of these myself on various keyrings and in various places. I buy them regularly as gifts for people who tell me they end up doing the same for others, so impressed have they been with them.

Nuff said.

Best small flashlight on the market 16 Dec. 2005
By C. Ivan Cooper - Published on Amazon.com
I have been using Photon Lights for years and they are my favorite type of flashlight. The best thing about them is they're always there when you need them! They take up very little space on your keychain. The Photon Micro has fully electronic dimmer functions, strobe lights, and morse code signaling capability -- definitely a good toy for a gadget freak.

These lights last a long time (much longer than the cheapies!), even more if you have and use the dimmer when you want to preserve your night vision. It's also easy to replace the batteries with standard inexpensive CR2016 or CR2032 batteries, depending on which light you have.

There's a very convenient plastic clip mount available which you can use to attach your Photon to a hat, headband, bike or anything else. If you get the Photon Freedom Micro light, the clip and a keychain quick release are included.

Make sure your Photon Light is the new "2x brighter" edition if you're going for a white LED, or look into other colors/options. IR, UV, multicolor versions are available. There's a "covert" body style available which doesn't throw as much light to the sides - also good for preserving night vision.

Best all around is the new 2x bright white which is actually real white light (not light blue like older LED designs). The coolest looking color is probably the turquoise. The best combo for night hiking is the Freedom Micro Green (Covert).

Bright, Waterproof, and Durable 1 Jun. 2009

I've become somewhat of an avid hiker and I find the LRI Micro-Light to be absolutely indispensable piece of hiking equipment. It is bright enough to serve as a primary light source for my evening hikes. Since I attach it to my keychain, I can use it as a backup light source in case my flashlight fails.

I'm just AMAZED at how bright this light is, especially considering that it uses just a couple of button lithium batteries (CR-2016 or CR-2032)! The brightness is adjustable and continuously variable from dim to very bright. At the brightest setting, it is almost as bright if not as bright as a regular LED flashlight.

Battery Life
The battery life is simply phenomenal. I've used it for about 6 hours worth of light, and so far, its brightness hasn't diminished.

- Waterproof

- 4 Modes

(1) Regular Mode
In the regular mode, press the button once to turn the light on, and press it again to turn the light off.

(2) Strobe Light Mode
In the Strobe Light mode, the Micro-Light can be used as a safety beacon light.

(3) SOS Mode
In the SOS mode, the Micro-Light can continously send an SOS signal · · · _ _ _ · · · (3 short pulses, followed by 3 long pulses, followed by 3 short pulses).

(4) Pulse Mode
In the pulse mode, press the switch to turn on the light; let go of the switch to turn the light off. There is one shortcoming to this mode: if the light is pressed and held beyond a predetermined period (about 10 seconds), the light goes into regular mode. You will once again have to program the Micro-Light back into pulse mode by performing a pattern of pulses outlined in the manual.

- Firm Button
The button is very firm so even if it gets inadventantly bumped in your pocket, it won't turn on the light and cause the battery to needlessly drain.

Necklace/Clip-On Light
The light comes with a necklace and a clip that you can attach the Micro-Light to. You can use your Micro-Light like a headlamp if you clip it to a visor or hat!

The LRI Micro-Light is near perfect. My only complaint is that when in the pulse mode, if the button is held beyond a predetermined time, the Micro-Light reverts back to regular mode. Otherwise, I have absolutely no other complaints. The LRI Micro-Light is bright, durable, and practical. It even comes with a necklace and clip accessories. I think it's well worth the money - highly recommended!

Ripoff in progress. Avoid Micro-Tools. 11 April 2012
By Jeff Freeman - Published on Amazon.com

This is the first time I have been wrecked by a shady (or perhaps substantially incompetent) vendor on an order fulfilled by Amazon. I order a *LOT* of stuff from Amazon. So, first, let me commend and hold blameless the good people at Amazon. They actually do an incredible job of keeping out the riff-raff.

I ordered 16 of the Photon Freedom Microlight, described as "LRI FMW Photon Freedom LED Keychain Micro-Light, White Beam." I ordered these as gifts for one of my teams at work who did a good job on a tough project, and I was going to hand them out at a teambuilding event last week. These were to be sold by Micro-Tools and fulfilled by Amazon.com. Regrettably, the lights, ordered 2-day on a Sunday night, didn't arrive until Thursday, too late for the teambuilding event. Not to worry. Nobody's perfect, and no problem: I'll hand them out to people at their desks!

But wait! What's this? I didn't get what I ordered! The product I ordered was a Photon Freedom shown in the Photon packaging with accessories, which is what I expected to see when I opened the box. What I actually received was 16 little generically-labelled plastic bags that were stapled shut and each contained one light that might (at best) be the lesser (and older) Photon Micro-Light II, but without the Photon packaging or the cool accessories. Closer inspection has revealed that these lights do not actually match anything currently for sale on the Photon website, so I am led reluctantly to the conclusion that Micro-Tools has not only sent me the wrong product, but is also selling knocked-off copies of Photon's stuff.

Absolutely infuriating. Avoid Micro-Tools. I would give zero stars if I could.

Great little light 9 Nov. 2009
By Daedalus - Published on Amazon.com
There is plenty of light output on high, and the dimming controls work well. The flashing beacon features could be useful, too. The light is so small that it's easy to block the beam with your fingers when holding it and trying to do a two-hand operation like tying a tent guyline. It's best to use the enclosed clip and fasten it to the bill of your hat. It also would serve well as a key-chain light. Replacement batteries are MUCH cheaper in bulk online; buy 10 CR2016 batteries and you have 5 replacement sets.

best keychain flashlight EVER 25 Mar. 2012
By Daedalus8 - Published on Amazon.com

I got the Freedom Micro in White Beam which is the brightest. It has a lot of functions such as;

Light is dimmable at ~ 10 brightness levels
Very easy to operate with just 1 button
Very compact and EDC-able so won't take up much space on your keychain
This thing is so bright that people have to turn their eyes away even if I hold it facing up. AND it's waterproof I think.

If I had this in Skyrim I wouldn't have to cast all those annoying Magelight spells. Nerd alert -_-

Caution: There have been problems with all Photon flashlights (even those sold by Amazon) where you may be sent a fake or a different model. But Amazon's RMA policy is awesome so just chat with a rep and they'll resolve the issue in about 5 mins, email you a return slip so you could send the bootleg back and send you a replacement. I ordered 2 at different times, got 1 correct and authentic and another knockoff of a different model, Amazon resolved it very professionally. Love this site!
