Robert Deaves is an excellent journalist and author as is demonstrated by this clear and well written account of the contest for the Gold Medal in the Finn Class at the 2012 Olympics. Robert starts with the history of the Finn Class at the Olympics and then builds the tension to the start with thumbnail sketches of each of the competitors as well as interviews given before the start of the games with several of the main contenders. Each race is then described and brought to life by Robert's clear writing with the knowledge of one who also sails a Finn. The book is also lavishly illustrated with photographs of the boats in action and finishes with interviews with the three medallists after the games in which they reveal their thoughts on Finn sailing, the future of sailing in the Olympic Games, and their future plans. I recommend this book to anyone who saw and enjoyed any part of the sailing at the 2012 Olympics, as well as to anyone who enjoys and appreciates epic sporting challenges.
