Book Description

3 Dec 2012
This is the story of the Finn class event at the London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition. It contains event previews, profiles of all the sailors, in-depth interviews with the favourites, daily reports from each day of the Olympics, follow-up interviews with the three medalists and many beautiful photographs from before and during the event. At the 2012 Olympics in the Finn class, Ben Ainslie won his fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal to add to the silver medal from 1996 to become the most successful Olympic sailor of all time. This book describes the journey of 24 sailors as they prepare for the biggest regatta of their lives and continues through to the thrilling medal race where Ainslie secured his record breaking fourth gold medal. It is a unique account, told mainly in the words of the sailors. Through these stories and photos you can re-live one of the most momentous weeks in sailing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Account from the 2012 Olympic Games 28 Dec 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Robert Deaves is an excellent journalist and author as is demonstrated by this clear and well written account of the contest for the Gold Medal in the Finn Class at the 2012 Olympics. Robert starts with the history of the Finn Class at the Olympics and then builds the tension to the start with thumbnail sketches of each of the competitors as well as interviews given before the start of the games with several of the main contenders. Each race is then described and brought to life by Robert's clear writing with the knowledge of one who also sails a Finn. The book is also lavishly illustrated with photographs of the boats in action and finishes with interviews with the three medallists after the games in which they reveal their thoughts on Finn sailing, the future of sailing in the Olympic Games, and their future plans. I recommend this book to anyone who saw and enjoyed any part of the sailing at the 2012 Olympics, as well as to anyone who enjoys and appreciates epic sporting challenges.
