It's good to see this re-issued! I have a copy of the original 1973 print of this book (actually a BCA-issued reprint a few months after the original printing).

Group Captain Douglas Bader tells the story of the Spitfire, the Hurricane and their uses in both the Battle of Britain and beyond.

It contains black-and-white and colour photographs (some of which I have not seen elsewhere, and were certainly rare when the book was first published).

It has lots of memories from pilots (not just Bader, but also AVM Johnnie Johnson, Wing Commander 'Laddie' Lucas and Group Captain Sir Max Aitken, plus others)

The contents are:

-- Prologue
1 In Flight and In Action "Personal impressions of the fighters and their opponents"
2 Birth of the Hurricane "Race against time"
3 Birth of the Spitfire "From seaplane to super-fighter"
4 The Battle of Britain "First blood"
5 Fight for Survival "The Battle of Britain"
6 The Hurricanes of Malta "Battle for the Mediterranean"
7 Balkan Blitzkrieg "Hopeless odds"
8 Attack & Defence "From the Mersey to Murmansk"
9 Malta at Bay " 'It makes the Battle of Britain seem like child's play' "
10 Sea Hurricane "The achievement of the 'Hurricats'"
11 Mediterranean Offensive "From the desert to the Alps"
12 D-Day and Beyond "Striking into Europe"
13 The Battle for Asia "The war against Japan"
-- Epilogue

Bader's the man! He tells terrific tales of the history and the actions of these two amazing aeroplanes with first hand experiences by himself and his many colleagues.
A great read for any aviation enthusiast.

Very Interesting and well written. 10 Jan 2007

Most Americans probably don't hold Bader in quite the same esteem that the Brits do, but they should. He was an extraordinary person, pilot, warrior, and gentleman. I really enjoyed his discussions of the Hurricane and Spitfire. A must have for any warplane enthusiast.
