I own one of the original PD30s and it's a great little light. Small enough to carry, solid and reliable.
It's got more levels of output than I really need - low and turbo would be enough for me, but the strobe mode is nice to have, just in case. The CR123A batteries can be a bit expensive in the UK, but they last a very long time at low power.

Without a doubt this is a great piece of kit, the Fenix PD30 build quality is nothing less than impressive, looks like it should last for ages. For the next generation of torches, I wish I'd had this many years ago.
This is my second purchase of an LED style torches and whilst my previous version never leaves my side when I am travelling but it is certainly not as bright as the Fenix. I also have a six cell Maglight and to be honest the range and light are not as intense as this torch, all the more impressive considering the tiny size. The batteries in my previous LED torch have lasted an impressive few years without issues. I have a large Church building behind me about 110 metres away and this Fenix easily illuminate this.
Yes, it's a great torch but for two reasons I am not giving its five stars are because of the following:
First no batteries, if this is a premium product why sell it without any batteries, this takes me back to when manufactures used to supply appliances without any plugs fitted, after all you wouldn't expect to have a brand new Porsche or Lexus delivered with no petrol (gas).
Also on batteries be careful as these vary in price from supplier avoid buying CR123A at a specialist camera retailer as they will typically be more expensive.
Second, the instructions are poor, yes it comes in five languages, English, Russian, German, French (or is it Italian) and Japanese. However, the font size is just so small I am not even sure what size the font is because it's tiny, measuring 1mm. Also its one of these instruction sheets that doesn't actually tell you a great deal about the product.
With all that said and done, I would certainly recommend this torch and when someone invents a time machine it will definitely make the list of items I would send back to my younger self, along with Icebreaker Merino base layer tops and fleece jacket.
If you are a regular camper, fisherman or hiker then the Fenix PD30 is definitely for you! This easily slips in your pocket, no problem, until needed.
And a final tip I used a small bit of Vaseline on the rubber ring, it helps with any water, I know there is some debate about this, but so far on my previous torch that I have now owned for just under nine years now, the rubber ring has lasted no problems. My six cell Maglight is coming on for twenty odd years now, still working fine.

A very compact and bright light.
This torch uses a super bright LED, so you get more light for your batteries than with an incandescent torch, such as a maglite. If you go from using a maglite to this torch, you will be amazed.
The pros:
The construction quality is fantastic, and it will work in all weather. It is waterproof, various youtube videos show it being fully submerged.
The option for li-ion rechargeable or lithium cr123a batteries mean that you can power it cheaply, but still carry disposable replacement batteries around. The torch is small but powerful.
The brightness choices are well spaced, the highest level is really impressive, but at the lowest mode, useable for walking around, you know you;ll have many nights of light available without worrying about a battery change.
The two button operation is nice, the torch remembering which mode you used last, and cycling through modes is easy.
The cons:
The only thing I'd change about this torch is that Id recess the on/off button on the back, as it is the torch can't be stood up. A small issue, really.
The function button is great, and I like the memory, but its not the easiest to find if you're wearing gloves, compared to the the very recessed button on Zebralights, for example.
Overall, I like this torch much more than other lights I own. Why? Its so small, I can carry it everywhere. Its very bright, yes, but the design of the beam and reflector are especially pleasing. Unlike some other LED flashlights, the beam thrown out is a really pleasant mixture of flood and spotlight. The light wont go for hundreds of meters, but on the plus side, when I'm using it for walking about, I have a good, wide, evenly spaced flood beam, not just a tiny spot of intense light. I'm not doing search and rescue, I'm just using it to walk about with. If you do want a really long throwing beam, the Fenix TK series may be a better choice.

A Bright Idea, EXCELLENT.
This is an expensive torch, but you definitely get what you pay for with this small torch.
