I've bought many special editions now, this is probably my least favourite... lets face it, a metal case counts for nothing...the comic which supposedly bridges the gap between the last game and this is 4 pages! spoiler alert, in its 4 pages we see a helicopter crash, the end, underwhelming. the figure of alma looks ni the pics like its made from some cool resin type stuff, her belly looks translucent and in it we can see a foetus, unfortunately its really cheap light plastic with some glow paint dabbed on her belly button... cheap cheap...

the game is solid, but no active servers mean no on-line any more, its not much fun, but fans of the first two should at least continue the story...

This review is specifically about what extras you get in the collector's edition for those of you wondering if its worth the extra outlay. The overall package itself is very nice and as a sucker for collector's editions it certainly fulfilled my hoarding needs but lets see what's inside. Heavily pregnant Alma figure, quite nicely done if somewhat creepy but the paint apps on mine mean she's cross-eyed. She'll be staying in the box. Code to download bonus magnum weapon, yay. The game itself comes in a very nice steelbook, I'd have quite liked this to have been available as a separate edition, its certainly one of the nicest steelbooks I've seen. So lastly to the exclusive comic, its very short, about 10 pages, not particularly well drawn and poorly written. It deals with how we get from the end of the first FEAR game to the beginning of FEAR 3 so SPOILER ALERT! Pointman's helicopter crashes, Fetell goes "Boo!" and Pointman gets arrested, seriously that's it. Actually its amazing it too as many as 10 pages to convey something that could have been covered in 3 panels. I remember the blurb for the comic saying find out the back story how Pointman comes to be in prison at the start of FEAR 3, hmm let me see, at the end of FEAR 1 he's not in prison, at the start of FEAR 3 he is, so I'm guessing he gets arrested. Yep. Still the game itself it great, I saved a few quid getting it on Amazon.fr, fyi outer box and instructions were in French, comic and game are thankfully in English.
