5.0 out of 5 stars Hello do you want an MP3 player or a radio!!, 12 Sep 2003
By A Customer
I don't like writing reviews on products that much however I was a little surprised when I read the only current review on this product.

I have had an FD100 for around two months now and frankly can not undersatnd how it has only received a 2 star rating!!

Lets start with the facts for this player;
supports MP3 and WMA playback
PC and Mac compatible, not that the latter is of any use to me!
They say it has upto 24hrs worth of playback, well I couldn't vouch for that as I tend to like to sleep at some part of the day, but it does seem to last a long time.
128MB internal memory gives me around 4 hours of music in WMA format, smaller file size than MP3. In addition it takes SmartMedia cards (Cheap as chips to coin a phrase!)
The manufacturer seems to be very well known and reviewed in a lot of press.
Sound quality is excellent and it comes with all the sofware you could need.

Now back to my point about the previous review, I to listen to the Radio on the FD100 from time to time and like ALL FM radios it has good areas and poor areas of reception, but ask yourself this, Why would you want to return an MP3 player because the radio isn't to your RDS radio lifestyle? I bought this player because it was constantly highly rated as an MP3 player not because it was an FM radio.

Carry on mpio this is a great product and long may it reign.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mpio FD100 128MB - A good bit of kit and no mistake, 20 Sep 2003
By Keith (Geordie) Brown (Dorchester, Dorset United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I was looking for either MP3 Net Minidisk or pure no moving parts MP3 player. I ended up with the former a Sony £160 Net Minidisk from another well known outlet, which although was a good quality unit failed on a couple of points. I found the software a bit over complicated and restrictive on some copying to disk due to copyright protection written into the software to limit some copying and also you could only CHECK MP3 tracks back into the computer it came from, even if you installed the software into another computer. so no good for going to your mates and uploading to their computer (For evaluation purposes only of course). Also I do a lot of sport and wanted an appropriate unit for running, cycling, workouts etc and I found the sony a bit too noticable on weight and size. I got a refund on the basis of what I classed was the restrictive copying software which I was not made aware of at time of purchase. I then bought the Mpio FD100 128MB MP3 player from Amazon and it is the dogs doodahs. The sound quality is spot on with music tweaks and other on screen options for the more tech minded. It's easy to use, and looks good, uses 1 AA battery which does 24hrs play (I use rechargables). The software is a piece of cake to use, just a case of drag and drop. Apart from the 128MB onboard it can also take various smart cards up to 128MB, it is small, light and another big factor is PRICE...this same unit retails on some sites at...wait for it..£190..Amazon was the cheapest I found, in fact people are trying to sell second hand ones for more than the £133 new units. Delivery was prompt and email contact every step of the way from purchase to delivery was nice.Well done Amazon---(freebies reluctantly accepted)

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best MP3 players I've ever had!!, 11 Sep 2003
Digitalway made a great mp3 player (DMG) even better with the creation of the FD100. The sound quality is still crystal clear, it's compact, good looking and extremely easy to use. I've had mine for a few months now and had the DMG before it for a year and not a single problem with them.

The addition of the remote was a welcome addition as it was probably the only thing missing from the DMG. Couldn't recommend more highly.
