Jeff King does does his best to tackle such an imposing subject as F.C.Barcelona.The book even has a "happening right now" feel to it. It's also great that the book is so recent. The fact that he is a geniune football writer, who happens to live in the city of Barcelona, can only lend credibility to his book. No other club in the world offers such rich drama, behind the scences suspense, and general mayham than F.C.Barcelona, and it seems Mr. King decides to write the majority of his book based on the clubs numerous faults, and blunders. Yet its nice to see an author write as true account of the club as possible, rather than have a sanctified version.(As does the press in Catalunya). THE Rivalry versus Real Madrid takes up two chapters, and the "meringues" are an ever present subject throughout the book. Mr. King would have done better to break up his book into more chapters, some chapters seem drawn out, and much too long. One thing that should be unanimously hailed are the breathtaking photos of the city of Barcelona. All in all the true Barca fan will feel a little peeved at the book, because it is not written by a fan, ready to hail Barca as eternal champions. Yet any football fan who picks up this book, will soon read the mamoth that is Barca. And no matter who you support (Rangers,United,Milan, etc.) ,you'll learn that Barcelona is "mes que un club" . More than a club. A good all around book, a must for fans who love their football "caliente"!
