I had not heard of this author before and was most pleasantly surprised when I finished this book. An American who infiltrates the al Qaeda and becoming a Muslim (reminded me of the TV series "Homeland") and returning to the U.S. When writing about the terrorists in Afghanistan, I felt I was there too. There was the competition between the CIA and the FBI, the alternating viewpoints between the Jihadists and their style of Islam, and that of the West, and the wavering of the book's faithful spy own religion or philosophy. Extremely well written, very believable (recollecting, among others, the attempt to bomb Times Square). Its suspense is maintained believably throughout the book. Most enjoyable.
