By R. Mullaney VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
I like Adam Freelands sound, it's primarily breakbeats with a rock/hip-hop slant. On this mix for Fabric he showcases a lot of talent from his Marine Parade label such as Evil Nine, The Bassbin Twins and of course himself. The mix kicks off with the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and morphs into the awesome False Prophets remix of 'flow' by PFN. The beats get tougher and heavier and the sound grungier, MCs rap and basslines growl. Freelands mixing is good and he switches between breaks, house and downtempo stuff seamlessly.

I prefer the breaks sound that Freeland plays to that of the Plump DJs (arguably the biggest act in breakbeat). It has more attitude and edge, the beats are grittier and sound less programmed. If you like this mix check out the Evil Nine album, 'You Can Be Special Too'.

Outrageously Good!! 8 Jun 2004
Format:Audio CD
From the moment you enter this album you will be sold completely!! This is definitely for the easy rollers out there. A journey of epic proportions to be listened either before going out, in the car or bak home after hours!! Each track moves effortlessly from one to the other: outstanding skills from Mr Freeland using 3 decks, a cd mixer and various other instruments. To be able to combine all this and yet sound so gritty and smooth is mind blowing! Welcome to the future! Get it now!

Hmm, starts off nicely, smooth downtempo breaks, blends into the superb 'Crooked' and out into 'Superpet' pleasantly building a nice tempo, Goes off in a slightly different (but nice) direction with 'Steamulation'. But after this the annoyingly out of place tracks start to appear, and the whole thing starts to fall apart for me. There are some good tracks in there, 'Reign' is great, so is 'In all nothing' but 'Freek' followed by 'mindkiller' is a really unwelcome change of pace at this point in the mix, and then it all comes back down again to finnish off with the lovely 'Airlock'. Should have stuck around that pace all the way in my opinion.

Mixing isn't that groundbreaking either, considering how much technology is employed in the making of mix albums these days, you'd expect some really amazing blends. Overall not bad, but not great.
