Biography

Biography by Andy Kellman
In November 2005, Chris Brown’s Scott Storch-produced “Run It!” — a rewrite of Usher’s “Yeah!” — topped the Billboard Hot 100, making the 16-year-old singer the first male artist in over a decade to top the chart with a debut single. While there was nowhere to go but down, at least in terms of chart positions, the pop-oriented R&B vocalist was only getting started. By the… Read more in Amazon's Chris Brown Store

BBC Review

Whether you can hum a Chris Brown hit or not, you're sure to know something about the US RnB singer – chances are concerning his 2009 conviction for the assault of his then girlfriend Rihanna. However, even after brooking the 18-track deluxe version of F.A.M.E. – that acronym stands for both "Fans Are My Everything" and, more tellingly, "Forgiving All My Enemies" – you'll still struggle to answer the question: "Who is Chris Brown?"

That's because, on this evidence, the tarnished star has yet to consolidate his artistic identity. R Kelly-esque sex God? Usher-style party-starter? Rival to Timberlake's precariously-poised King of Pop crown? All of the above, please! Brown's identity crisis is betrayed most blatantly by the sequencing of Wet the Bed, a grisly sex jam built around drip-drop sound effects, just two tracks after Next to You, his wholesome-as-homemade-chutney hook-up with Justin Bieber. It's also tricky to take him entirely seriously when he and his collaborators seem keen to scrape the bottom of the obnoxiousness barrel – who decided the chorus of She Ain't You should feature Brown harmonising with a Rihanna sound-alike?

However, despite these lapses in taste, and a glut of unadventurous mid-tempo RnB cuts, F.A.M.E. is no catastrophe. Brown can sell a club-pop tune like M&S can sell a tuna mayo sarnie at lunchtime; he's at his most ingratiating when he channels Off the Wall-era Michael Jackson on Say It With Me, unites with house DJ Benny Benassi for the electronic throb of Beautiful People, and conflates recent Black Eyed Peas, Usher and Jay Sean hits into the infectious Yeah 3x. The Ryan Tedder-ish soft rock of All Back, meanwhile, proves that he can carry a ballad.

So, while he fails to reward those fans who are everything to him with a great collection of pop-RnB, Brown at least gives them reason to believe. At 21, he remains enough of a fledgling to forge a more fully-formed musical identity as he matures. Crucially, having sent two singles into the top 10 this year already – Yeah 3x and the Chipmunk-assisted Champion – the MP3-downloading public seems willing to give him that chance.

CD Description

F.A.M.E. is the fourth album from American R&B singer Chris Brown. Working with a variety of writers and producers, including Diplo, Benny Benassi and Tha Bizness, Brown continues to blur the lines between soul, hip hop, pop and dance music. Brown is also joined by a host of guest vocalists including Lil' Wayne, Busta Rhymes, Justin Bieber and Ludacris.

I have to say, I was a bit apprehensive about even listening to Chris Brown's new album, since I've never really been a proper fan of his music. However, I decided to pick this album up, and I was pleasantly surprised.

The whole album follows the typical Pop/Hip-Hop oriented genre, as you would expect from a Chris Brown album, although there are hints of Rap and R&B sprinkled through-out allowing for overall, a nice mix of music. Pacing is also varied with songs like Beautiful People being high tempo, whilst songs like Deuces are much slower, but just as good. This variation is really nice to see, especially these days when most artists stick to purely one kind of song. As a rapper, which is Chris Brown's new 'thing', I'd say he does a good job. His style is good, and I've come to really like him as a rapper in general. Oh My Love shows off his rapping ability fairly well.

First off, the entire album is, on the whole, well produced, with tracks like Deuces, Yeah 3X and Beautiful People being the real stars in this department.

My favourite tracks of the album are Deuces (AMAZING production that sounds heavenly on any high-end pair of monitors, catchy verse by Tyga as well as a really good hook by Brown himself), Next to You (SUPER addictive, shows off Brown's true vocal talents, Bieber's verses are also nicely done - great to see them working together, I hope they do more music together in the future) and Oh My Love (Really amazing first verse, but a chorus that just doesn't fit the rest of the production of the track - nonetheless, a good song). Look At Me Know is also pretty insane with Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes stealing the shows with their awesome verses.

Now the downsides to this album. There aren't many, mind you! Firstly, I was really disappointed with Wet the Bed, as Ludacris is one of my favourite artists. I also hate the production on Bomb, and again, I was disappointed with Wiz Khalifa.

Overall this album is truly an excellent comeback record for Chris Brown, that has more than enough tracks to warrant a purchase of this album. I would say however that this is not a purely rap album, but has a really nice blend of music that is wonderful.

As said in the title, i think this is a great album and there are certain songs on it that are classics(Beautiful People, Next to You, BOMB) but after releasing songs such as Deuces and No BS on his mixtapes and Yeah 3x as a single, i was a little disappointed. I thought they're would be more new material like these great hits & being a massive CB fan, i had actually heard 6 of the songs on this album a while before the launch(not leaked ones) so wasn't too bothered by hearing them on the album. Bottom line is if you're not massive into Chris Brown yet this album is amazing with lots of great tracks but if your a big fan you'll be left wanting a little bit more. I'm Hoping his next album "Fortune" will give us some of his fresh new tunes, straight out the oven.
