A feast of a book—the photographs are so sharp you would want to wear gloves reading it." A wonderful book! 18 Mar 2009
By Luis Gallo - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This is a wonderful and instructive book. Starting with Galileo's first views of the skies through a simple refractor telescope, this lavishly illustrated book narrates the evolution of the telescope and the important role it has played in the evolution of astronomy. Jump from Galileo's refractors to Newton's small reflector, from Herschel' wooden giants to Yerkes big refractor and then to the legendary telescopes of Mount Wilson and Mount Palomar that led scientists to the most profound astronomy discoveries of the twentieth century. And then get to know the Hubble space telescope and the wonderful machines on the making that will give astronomers their best views yet of the universe. An amazing book,it comes with an hour long Dvd, Eyes in the Skies, the official International Year of Astronomy 2009 DVD. Eyes in The Skies, 400 Years of Telescopic Discovery, adopted also as the official IYA 2009 book,is printed in high quality and colorful acid free papers and is, as well as the Dvd a visual an informative delight.
