This movie is unique in its genre: few American movies are part of the "giallo" genre. Why and how did I get interested in this movie? First of all because I became of fan of Tommy Lee Jones in 2012! I really got into him.
Irvin Kershner, the director who would later direct "The Empire strikes back", paid a great deal of attention to creating beautiful images. Though this is a tragic story, New York shines in its autumn glory; New York is a character.
Faye Dunaway and Tommy Lee Jones are young and stunning, a dream American couple: both are of Native American ancestry. Brad Dourif, Rene Auberjonois, Raul Julia can't do much wrong. The models (Darlanne Fluegel, Lisa Taylor) are beautiful and friendly.
I like the entire movie: I've watched it 6 or 7 times, with more to come. What I love most are the romantic scenes between Tommy Lee Jones and Faye Dunaway. Irvin Kershner studied photography and painting. One can feel it in almost every shot. Near the end of the film, TLJ starts running on a busy New York street. He stretches his hands, throws his body forward to catch Brad Dourif. He is one of the most beautiful creatures I've ever seen, on a par with tigers and supernovas. This is a movie to watch if you only know TLJ from the Men in Black trilogy! He is handsome, sexy, elegant, dangerous, athletic, sensual, vulnerable. And those eyes...
The DVD is of very good quality with extra features such as Director's Commentary; Irvin Kershner comments a lot of frames and talks about the actors.
"Eyes of Laura Mars" is a masterpiece, a feast for the eyes. 70s fashion is elegant and timeless, the music is good. If you want elegance, drama, classiness, suspense and grit, go for it!
I want this DVD to be buried with me in my coffin when I die.Eyes Of Laura Mars (1978 Faye Dunaway) region 2 PAL
