Product Description

The award winning EyeSpy247Ext is an all-weather, high performance wireless IP surveillance camera.

IP65 rated (water/dust proof), it's perfect for outdoor CCTV applications but is equally at home indoors.

Very different looking to conventional 'bullet' type CCTV cameras with a smaller and more compact profile, there's no compromise on quality. It has a progressive CMOS sensor and offers bandwidth saving H.264, MPEG-4 and M-JPEG triple video streaming.

It has an auto IR cut filter for true colour video, nightvision over 10 metres in total darkness, motion, PIR and sound sensors, 2 way audio and long range 802.11N Wifi connectivity, giving it better reach than most IP cameras. Plus many other features packed into its tiny form factor.

Use stand alone to view remotely from an Internet computer or mobile. Or with just a few clicks use it with our exclusive web portal giving you access to easy remote viewing, recording, email/SMS alerts and loads more.

Easy to setup with BT Home Hubs plus broadband routers from Sky, O2, and many others. UK based technical support team if you need help.

Now comes with our new Windows & Mac install and NVR software. It also has NAS recording capability out-of-the-box.

Oh dear... 2 Nov 2011
By Simon G
So the feedback on their indoor cameras looked good, the price was high but OK, and the features looked good. That was where the positives end.

The motion detection is triggered by rain, shadows, wind and almost everything else. There are a lot of "zones" to help fine adjust this detection and with some hours effort over a number of weeks I was able to get down to about 8/10 real events captured a day and maybe 20 false events in good conditions. In rain, it was useless -.

No problem, I thought, that is what the PIR is for. THAT triggered fifty times a day (except when anyone walked in front of it). Its accuracy would embaress a £5 security lamp. I contacted support and they were able to offer no help for why the PIR was unfit for use.

The setup at least is easy and the saving of clips or emails was highly configurable. The lens angle is about 45 degress, wider would be a lot better.

Unfortunately a week ago it seemed to stop triggerring events so when someone nicked a parcel off my doorstepp on Friday, it proved no help.

In short, a total waste of money. I can think of no redeeming features. IF the PIR worked and IF it was reliable then the flexible positioning and easy setup would be a boon. As it is I might as well of left it in the box.

For the money, this camera is superb value. It worked straight from the box and the picture quality, both at night as well as day, is very impressive. In addition to that, I've been in contact with EyeSpy's customer service on a couple of occasions to check a few things and they responded very quickly and professionally.

What I would advise is to make sure you understand how the product that's been advertised works and whether it's right for your needs.

My intention with this camera was to set it up to monitor the rear doors of my property and upon detecting something I assumed it would begin recording and continue until the subject matter was no longer detected. The resulting film would then be uploaded to the internet for subsequent retrieval from anywhere in the world. Well, this product almost achieves this *but* the recordings are limited to a 10 second duration only.

What actually happens is that if the camera detects an event (via motion, sound or PIR) this will trigger a "flushing" of the camera's buffer (which is limited to approximately 10 seconds of footage). The generated movie clip is then uploaded by the camera to EyeSpy's web-server. Depending on your internet provider's upload speed plus the physical size of the movie clip (based on your picture & sound quality settings, etc) this process may take a minute or more to complete. Once the upload is done, the camera is then able to resume recording and monitor for the next event. Subsequently, if somebody breaks into your house and takes just a couple of minutes to get in and out, you may have the first 10 seconds of their arrival but nothing thereafter.

There are ways around this... you can skip the event detection mode altogether and simply record continuously to a local hard-drive but you'd need to leave your pc on the whole time to achieve this and have plenty of hard-drive space to accommodate the large movie files you'd generate. This is a shame as I liked the original idea of uploading the movies to an "off-site" location. If any damage occurred to the house by fire or flood, then the movie footage would still be safe on EyeSpy's web-server.

One other point to note is that the movie-clips are saved to the website in Flash format so will not work on Apple devices or, in my case, my Nokia E71.

Anyway, despite these limitations, I'd still recommend this camera. It's a fantastic device and provides a little extra peace of mind at a very reasonable price.

Superb Camera 10 Dec 2010
I have bought a number of WiFi IP addressable cameras. This is by far the best in picture quality and accessibility. I will definitely buy more. My only minor criticism is that compression isn't great - probably as a result of it being such high quality - you can only view the one camera at a time. I did try to register the camera with EyeSpy247 which didn't work, but for me this wasn't important for me. Overall a superb camera, built to a high quality and with excellent picture quality and accessibility.
