Product Description

Review

"...a major factor of Ratcliffe's enlightening and comprehensive volume on the SAS is, quite simply, the honest and bravely-placed identity on the book's cover, Peter Ratcliffe - for that really is his name. Peter Tory, Daily Express"

Product Description

Eye of the Storm does not always make comfortable reading, and many will be surprised to find the author occasionally critical of the regiment he loves, but in which at times he found stupidity, bad faith, and even incompetence. This is a balanced, truthful and long-overdue account of the SAS in action and out of it, by a decorated soldier uniquely fitted, both by character and by his senior position in the regiment, to tell of events as they really happened - earthy, dramatic, often extremely funny, occasionally disturbing, and always intensely interesting.

an eye opener 19 Dec 2002

Format:Paperback
like many young men(my age being 20) i have read many books on the army the majority of them about the special forces, i used to regard the book bravo two zero as my bible, the eye of the storm however changes that it changed my entire point of view it told what in most peoples eyes would be the most realistic account of the sas in action in the golf war. i myself am now a serving member in the parachute regiment i joined up two months after reading this book,it did not influence my decision. however i can vouch for the fact that not all rsm's are as fair minded as peter ratcliff appears to be.all in all a good book and well worth a read.

This book is packed with information about Peter Ratcliffe's life in the most famous Army Regiment in the world. Not hidden behind an alias, Ratcliffe shows everything from the mateship as a trooper to the lonelyness and isolation of Command.

Peter Ratcliffe gives excellent accounts into mission strategies, objectives and assessments as to where they went wrong.

This book is not at all like your previous SAS accounts. This true (as I believe) and to the point book acknowledges the feats of other authors who have also written their accounts, and corrects the exaggerations in them.

... After reading this book, I found that Peter Ratcliffe was an excellent leader in many missions, his professionalism seeming to be his only floor amoung his colleages.

My recommendations is to read this book if you want to know what really happended in Iraq...

No matter how many accounts you have read of THAT mission, it would appear that we finally have the real deal. Peter Ratcliffe has had a distinguished and successful career in the British Army, and gives a no holes barred account. Often critical, often funny, but always candid, this covers much of the ground of previous SAS memoirs but with one key difference. The author has nothing to prove. The fact that he was RSM (Regimental Sargeant Major) of the SAS speaks for itself. If you have read the others, read this. The finest account yet of the regiment.
