Manufacturer's Description

The Eye of Judgment sees the dawn of a new way to interact with the PLAYSTATION 3 system as an innovative game for the world of card games. Using the immense power of PLAYSTATION 3, and the ground-breaking technology of the next generation camera, players can now enjoy a totally new genre in gaming.

The Eye of Judgment presents a new style of gameplay where the player brings characters/monsters of fantasy trading cards to life for battle in 3D. Through use of a 3' x 3' board and trading cards - each encrypted with cybercode, players conquer the field by selecting a card and placing the cybercode in front of the next generation camera for their respective character to come to life and battle. Each character has various skillsets, which will determine the outcome of the battle. Players take turns to place cards as they jostle for control of the board; the winner is the first player to capture five of the nine squares. The Eye of Judgment presents the player with more than 30 cards, as well as unique online and offline gameplay.

This game is AWESOME. It has just the exclusivity that PS3 owners need to differentiate themselves from those other consoles.

I spent a lot of time researching this slowly emerging game and it took me a lot of digging to find the facts,- but it wasnt long before I was compulsed to drive 50 miles & grab a copy.

The aim of the game is to set up the 9 grid board and capture any 5 squares by summoning creatures and spells using your hand of cards which you place on the squares... Your opponent also has the same aim so you have to be very strategical with which units you place and when. Each unit can attack and defend from different directions so you play off your oppenent by exploiting these. Not only this - but each square represents terrain and your placed units get bonuses or penalties based on where you place them as well as each card having it's own abilities. This all adds up to make some mind twistingly great strategy although there is a dash of luck as well. Once you know how to play, you will be thinking very long and hard about your next move and it's great seeing strategies pay off.

What annoys me is:
>The marketing is pretty poor so you could easily overlook this box in a store; It is a bluray case with a hefty £70 price tag and nowhere does it say it comes with the camera, but this is not the case as you get the eye toy with it.
>The play matt is a lowsy piece of cloth which rucks up when you place the cards (improved by ironing first)unless you are very careful.
>The tutorial is the most droning load of drivvle and confused me more than anything so I just learnt how to play myself.
>The heavy metal soundtrack becomes a touch repetitive.
>US version is half the price but i would still say £60 is well worth it.

This game is fairly easy to pick up (guidance videos are available with the game), but also requires a lot of thought and strategy to play. It can be quite challenging, and I love the ruleset and how the game works. The use of the camera works very well. It doesn't seem to make any mistakes when picking up the cards, which then come to life beautifully on the screen. When you first start playing the novelty of how it works is very exciting. The use of real cards also has another great implication in that they can be collected. You can buy new 30 card decks for around £7 and booster packs consisting of 8 cards for around £2.50, which i find is quite resonable. The decks also come with a small booklet containing storis and info about the game, and some cards are rarer than other. (I look forward to being able to trade with my mates for cards i don't have.)

This game allows you to either play against the computer, computer vs computer, player vs player in the same room, or online. Online is very easy to use, allowing you to create both public and private games. If set up the mic on top of the camera also allows you to speak to your opponent. The computer is great for practice, but this game is best when being able to play against a human opponent. When i bought this game I was lucky in that most of my friends were also interested in playing it too, allowing me to play them online (which is something i did take into consideration before buying.) Another thing to take into consideration before getting this game is the space required to set it up. This game uses a mat to lay your cards out on. It's best if you hav a good flat surface in a well lit room.

I went out and bought this today after spending much time reading up on it. The first thing you notice is the size of the box! Its not because its so damn big its because its so damn small!! The Playstation'Eye is provided with the game which is great. On to what you want to know.
The game board ... or cloth is pretty pathetic really. It's simply a piece of cloth with 9 squares and 4 stand markers to show where you should place the sony eye. The starter deck is also a tiny let down. Those familiar with Magic the Gathering will expect a full book with descriptions, coloured guide and some other funky stuff but all you get in the starter deck are the 30 cards and nothing else. You also get an 8 card booster set which can help (i had a pretty good card in there).
Now to the game. The tutorial is mind numbing as its just some guy with a poor tone rambling on. I had to pick it up on my own as I got bored listening to him babble for 30 mins. The game itself is pretty good though. The animations are very flashy and teh battles are fairly decent. you need to take your time with this game you cant just place cards down and hope for the best. The game itself is good, the pieces you get with it like the stand are very plasticy and weak but its the game your going for so its pretty damn good. Would i recommened this? Yes.
Just take care of it and dont break it.

Verified Purchase
This is what owning a PS3 is all about!!

I received this game for Christmas day (with Biolith Scourge theme deck and 4 additional booster packs) and since then I've hardly stopped playing it, and if I'm not playing it I'm trying to improve my decks.

Since getting it I've bought a Fire Crusader theme deck and another 5 booster packs which I should take delivery of any day now :)

Once you get over the initial confusion this game really comes into its own. It's furiously addictive and is a genuinely original and fresh take on the trading card genre. The way the camera reads your cards and generates a 3D creature on screen almost immediately is truly amazing and is a sight to behold. The possibilities of this game are incredible, there's just so much strategy involved and half the fun of this game is getting to know your cards and building your very own deck, then taking it online to battle against the world for never the same game twice.

Graphically the game is fantastic, with loads of cool lighting and magic effects when you place a card on the board and a creature or spell is generated in front of your very eyes.

I recommend this game to anyone that's a fan of trading card games, or anyone that is getting tired of the constant stream or shooters on the market at present. It really is a breath of fresh air and a real treat to find a game that breaks the mould and dares to be different, and it succeeds brilliantly. It's incredibly deep and involving and requires a great deal of time to master, but once you do it is very rewarding.

Get this game. You will not regret it.
