Product Description

Jayne Ann Krentz has crafted "romantic suspense of the highest order" (Amazon.com) in twenty-two New York Times bestsellers, including her recent blockbuster, Flash. Now, she unearths secrets at a New Age resort, where a hard-edged businessman and a beautiful art expert make a tantalizing mind-body connection -- and where a killer threatens their piece of paradise. Alexa Chambers has a flair for style, an eye for art -- and a reputation in tatters. An expert in Art Deco, she blew the whistle on an employer who was selling fakes to wealthy clients. Her payoff? No job and no prospects. Now she runs a shop in her hometown of Avalon, Arizona -- a hot spot for crystal devotees and sunset gazers. But gutsy, energetic Alexa has no intention of sitting still. She's ready to take risks to rebuild her career...and she secretly consults on an exquisite deco collection being installed at the new Avalon Resorts. Her scheme might just work -- if she can steer clear of the resort's owner, the enigmatic and possibly dangerous J. L. Trask. Alexa was a scared teenager the last time she saw Trask, the man who accused her stepfather of murder. Insisting his dad's fatal car crash had been no accident, Trask vowed one day he'd come back to Avalon for revenge. Now, twelve years later, their meeting is inevitable. Their attraction is immediate. And their chances of bliss are infinitesimal. Trask wants to piece together the past with Alexa's help -- and get closer to this dazzling deco diva. Alexa wants to protect her family -- and figure out Trask's real motivations. But when a killer emerges from the shadows, they have no choice but to team up to solve a deadly crime from long ago. As they trade sizzling sparks and snappy repartee loaded with sensual suggestion, their trail leads to a trendy spa called the Dimensions Institute, whose flaky denizens and strange atmosphere suggest there is more hidden there than meets the eye. They don't need a crystal ball to see that their survival -- and relationship -- depends on more than tantric breathing or a heavenly passion. They need a little help from a higher power: a true and trustworthy love.

Another Winner! 19 April 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Jayne Ann Krentz has done it yet again with Eye of the Beholder. The only thing that runs deeper than the mystery and intrigue is the passion and strong attraction of the hero and heroine. Twelve years ago J.L. Trask's father died in a mysterious car crash while trying to build a resort in Avalon, AZ. Trask is convinced his father was murdered. It has taken 12 years of perseverance and empire building but now, a hotel and resort mogul in his own right, Trask is returning for the realization of his father's dream. That Trask will likely stir up the past is not lost on the locals. Alexa Chambers is the step-daughter of one of the men Trask first accused all those years ago. Once prominent in her field, antiquities expert of the early 20th century Art Deco period Alexa is now professionally disgraced. Alexa now runs a tacky tourist shop (don't tell her its tacky) filled with miniature gargoyles, coats of armour and renditions of old maps. Alexa is determined to protect the man who did his best to fill the shoes of her late father. Trask is determined to find the truth. Neither is able to resist the other. However, the world outside the fantasy intervenes. Alexa and Trask face the unknown menace together. All of this is set in a romantic locale in Arizona complete with red rocks, hidden springs and a new age guru. Everything is not quite as it seems and the truth may depend on your point of view. Pick up this book, ignore the doorbell, turn off the phone and enjoy!

A great beach read: 6 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Alexa Chambers, once a prominent art expert now runs a tiny shop and dreams of making her comeback. JL Trask just might hold the key. A hotel owner who unwittingly provides Alexa with the opportunity she needs, Trask might get her foot back in the Deco door. Their first meeting provides sparks and resurects an old mystery -- a mystery Trask is determined to solve. And he needs Alexa's help to do it. Romance, intrigue, art and new ageism is mixed in another wonderfully quirky story by Jayne Ann Krentz.

I loved it! 8 May 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I just finished "Eye of the Beholder" and found it to be one of the author's better books of late. I hate to admit it but I wasn't in any hurry to pick up this book since I'd read several of JAK's books recently and they had all started sounding alike. But I really liked this one and read it in 2 days - it would have been 1 day but life got in the way.

I liked the interaction of the main characters and the eccentricities of the supporting ones. I love it when JAK adds the "odd" people - they make the story more interesting. It had drama, humor (a necessity), and just the right touches of mystery and romance, of course. I liked the fact that the story wasn't overwhelmed by the love interest (Trask & Alexa) but was neatly blended together with the mystery to create a thoroughly enjoyable story.

But, I especially liked the fact that I couldn't figure out the entire plot until the end of the story. Tho' the story was lightweight compared to some, it kept me interested and curious. I've read several mysteries lately that were a waste of time - this one wasn't.

So, even tho' I thought the ending came a little too quickly & neatly, my only real complaint is the fact that Trask's brother was missing at the finish. How could the story end without Nathan showing up? He's there at the beginning, he's there in the middle, but along comes the ending and he's no where in sight...?

This story is flat and unimaginative.
JAK's continued overuse of new-age thinking cannot disguise the fact that this story was dull and the characters were not developed to their full potential. Read more

Cardboard cutouts and boring "details"

Same old, same old
What a disappointment. Krentz just seems to be recycling bits and pieces of her old books. It's the same hardbitten businessman, yuppie cuisine, New Age nonsense, etc. Read more
