Product Description

Grayson Adams is living a double life in Victorian England. By day, he paints erotic pictures, by evening he attends the balls where eager mamas throw their virginal daughters at him, though he is merely the youngest son of a baron. Lately, however, he’s lost his muse, and wonders what it would be like to paint one of those virginal society misses.
Sarah Dusenberry is enduring her fifth season, and is tired of her mother pushing her toward a husband, when it’s clear no man wants her. Why can’t she just travel with a companion, lead the life of a well-off spinster? But her mother wants her to have the protection of a man and will not part with the funds Sarah needs for her dream of travel. In search of her own funds, she answers an ad for an artist’s model, never thinking of how she’ll be modeling—or how much she’ll enjoy it.
Grayson becomes entranced with his new model and pursues her in society as he struggles to keep his distance in the studio. What will Sarah do when she learns the truth?

3.0 out of 5 stars A good starting point 11 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Grayson Adams is an arisocratic younger son who, under a pseudonym, has made a fortune painting and selling erotica and on the side "doing" his lower class models, but he's got a bit bored. At other times he attends society functions and we're told he wonders what it would be like to do 'his' paintings of society virgins...however we're not given insight into these wonderings or why, for him, there would be any difference from his normal models. Sarah is a Lady who has been 'out' for 5 years and still unmarried; we're told she'd like to give up the society thing and travel. Her mother won't let her. So, to start raising her own funds, Sarah answers an ad to be an artists model and... Sarah and Grayson meet (though of course they should have been meeting for years at society functions).

This is a short bit of erotica that reads rather like the sketchy outline, for what would have been a great Emma Holly novel. The outline is good, but there is no proper building of characters, barely any insight into Grayson or Sarah, almost no period feel and in places no attempt at realism...why would a Victorian aristocratic virgin take off almost all her clothes, without a seconds hesitation or soul searching, within less than 5 minutes of "meeting" a man, even if she is to be his artistic model? Also HOW could she have got out of those clothes, without help, in less than 20 minuits. Just think about it; trying to unhook a gown, untie petticotes, handle a hoop and unhook your own corset all in a glare of candlelight with a strange man watching? But in this piece of writting the whole thing is over and done in the time it takes to shed your "slouching" clothes and with as little thought.

There is potential here; the sex scenes, being the only bits that are...excuse the pun...

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting 27 Feb 2013

Very unlike any other historical books I've read before. Quite interesting but the ending is expected. Not enough development in the romance area though.. feels like it was too rushed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexual Delight 29 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
My summary of the book - Sarah wants adventure so when she sees an advertisement for an artist model she goes along to seek funds for her adventure. But its not normal modelling especially for a innocent but she goes along with what the mysterious artist demands and soon discovers new joys and pleasure in life.

Thoughts on the characters - Sarah is desperate to get from under her mother and seek adventure of travelling abroad but she needs funds to do this. When she goes to the artist house to do the modelling she is shocked at what he wants her to do but she does it. Soon she is experiencing things that no young innocent should feel and doesn't know what to do. She becomes a different person under the attentions of the artist so when she is in society she is back to being shy and unnoticeable so it makes it even harder for her to work out why Grayson is paying her attention when he is mysterious and doesn't talk much to young innocents.
Grayson is frustrated when he loses his touch and needs a new muse to get creativeness back so when Sarah turns up at his house he is shocked especially as she could blow his cover so he has to pretend he is someone else without her knowing. He is even more shocked by his reaction to Sarah as they set her sexual poses and finds his control slowly slipping. He is even more confused when he starts to pursue her in society knowing it is causing talk but he can't stay away from her.

Overall thoughts - Brilliant short story of sexual delights in a historical setting. It is very sensual with Sarah learning about herself and the pleasures that your body can have and she definitely goes through a interesting lesson in life.

5.0 out of 5 stars My kind of romance novel! 24 Jun 2011
By Tina - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I came across this book late in the evening and I decided from the plot it sounded like it would be a good read. As I was reading it I was very surprised just how drawn in I was. As most romance readers know that in a story you have the Hero, the Heroine, and some awful secret, murder, or something else just silly. In most novels you are experiencing the romance but also a nasty twist and of course-several secondary characters who fill pages with nonsense and giving their two cents in when you really don't care to hear it. I was delighted to find out very soon in this book you have none of those crazy and drawn out things in this story. It is simply-one sexy man, an almost spinster, and A LOT of hot, steamy, and eye widening sex scenes! Who could ask for anything better!! It was short read, roughly 100 pages, but it was so hot and intense that it was the perfect length. It was a story I have never come across before in my time as a Historical Romance reader but I must say I enjoyed it far more than half the books I have read. This one gets straight to the point of what every erotic novel reader wants to experience. I had to stop myself and pause a few times because the sex was so HOT, but it was only a very short pause :) I recommend this book to anyone who just wants to take a break from their daily life for an hour or two and wrap themselves into the heated romance between a artist and his model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Characters you can care about 27 May 2011
By The Readin' Librarian - Published on Amazon.com

In Eye of the Beholder, Grayson and Sarah are two characters who hide their true selves to the world. Sarah is an on-the-shelf regency miss, Grayson is a youngest son making his own way in the world. When they meet he is disguised as an Italian painter and she as an artist's model. Their attraction is instantaneous and the walls begin to crumble. Their encounters are sensuous and tender. Their happy ending is joyous. Congrats to Emma Jay on a terrific novella.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story, until the abrupt ending 27 Jun 2011
By STL Chick - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Sarah is a twenty-one year old woman in English society, going to balls all the time to try to fulfill her mother's dream of Sarah marrying a husband with title and status. Sarah is on the verge of being a "spinster" and would rather travel than continue to attempt to find a husband. She sees an ad for an artist's model, and being naive, decides to apply in hopes of making some money for travel. The artist is actually a baron's son, who lives a double life as an erotic artist and a baron's son in society. He conceals his true identity to Sarah, and begins to have her pose for him. The artist is aware of her status in society, and thus is careful to not compromise that status, and is sure to conceal her identity. He does begin to teach Sarah about her sexuality, each time she poses the lessons grow in intensity. Having gotten to know Sarah as the artist, he decides to begin to court her as the baron's son as well.

I really enjoyed most of this short story. Each scene built well, and I really enjoyed the intensity of feeling that built as Sarah's sexual awakening grew. However, I felt that the "happily ever after" ending was quickly crammed in the short story. It really ruined the story flow. It was almost as if the ending was an afterthought, quickly written into a story that otherwise had a great pace. This would be a five star story, if not for the abrupt ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars i liked it but the ending was rushed 26 Jun 2011
By Jessantonia - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
SPOILERS
I liked how Sarah and Grayson came together. I liked that he recognized her and the different methods he used to keep his identity hidden from her and while Sarah always had a thing for Grayson and I liked how she figured out it was him without him telling her but i dont see how he fell in love with her so quickly and then the ending was rushed and left much to be desired. Overall, interesting read with some very nice painting sessions! At the end of the day, I liked it.
