This Hong Kong based film is one of the few genuinely scary horror films out there. Definitely not for the faint hearted. The plot is both original and compelling: a young woman, blind since the age of two, has cornea implants to restore her sight. However as she adjusts gradually to her new world of images, she is horrified to realise that she can see the dead...(!) The film is brilliantly directed - the build up of tension is incredible whilst the scary scenes are spaced out exactly right, so as to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire film whilst having just enough relief scenes to keep your nerves from overcoming you. The film resolves spectacularly with a satisfying ending, and I for one was left with shivers down my spine but unable to stop smiling from having my emotions manipulated so incredibly. I can honestly say that I enjoyed every minute of this film, but be prepared to hide behind the sofa for there are some truly hair-raising moments at times. If you liked "The Sixth Sense" and "The Others" and you're looking to be scared, then this beautifully crafted film is the one for you. Thoroughly recommended.

Coming out of a whole range of inventive Japanese horror movies, I was expecting alot from this widely enjoyed Pange brothers film. I wasn't disappointed in any sense. It is a unforgettable picture, both frigthening and rewarding at the same time.
It is of course undeniable that the premise is derivative, you get the sense that the Pang's revel in this if anything, bringing their own style to familiar territory. The technical brilliance on display in so many clever experiments with the camera far surpass 'the Others' or 'the Sixth Sense'.
The acting is satisfactory, and while the details of the plot of never the primary skill of a horror film, this is no teen gore fest. Originality is it's byword, but don't think for a second thing the film won't scare you. It achieves more than its share of genuinely creepy thrills.
The film as a complete package is a real highlight of modern Japanese cinema, and it really is worth seeing, you won't bge disappointed.
