There is no duff track on the album. It is awesome, awesome, awesome.

Released with distribution problems the band toured for ages to support themselves. The gigs on this tour left me feeling euphoric.

I cannot and will not review any tracks except one because they are all stupendous.

Age of Greed however has to be one of the most musically and lyrically aggressive songs I have ever heard. It will leave you feeling quite drained after you hear it.
Geordie's guitar is perfect throughout.

Truly "the sound of the earth vomiting".

When this album was released in 1990 I can remember the somewhat indifferent response from the music press-something I have never understood.

This album was far superior to the 2 previous albums-Brighter than a Thousand Suns(over produced and dated) and Outside the Gate(in reality a Jaz Coleman solo album).

With Martin Atkins(ex PIL,MInistry,Pigface)as the new drummer Killing Joke were set fair for a new phase in their career-but like all well laid plans personality disputes culminated with the band splitting in late 1991 and thus fans could only guess as to the future sound-although Murder Inc(basically KJ without Jaz) gave a glimpse.

The tracks on this album were/are better in a live setting-Inside The Termite Mound a brilliant set-opener,Slipstream,Intravenous,Money Is Not Our God all the equal of any earlier KJ material.

If there is any criticism I would direct that towards the slightly sludgy production -the guitar is not loud enough, and some of the tracks are overlong becoming little more than exercises in tub thumping from Martin Atkins.

In conclusion this album offers a glimpse of a band reaquainting themselves with their past and adding a new sheen to it.

The Ultimate Killing Joke Album 27 Dec. 2007
By Dr. Bonkers - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Probably the best iteration of Killing Joke of all the different line-ups. Martin Atkins plays with a fire unseen since his Public Image Limited days. Jaz Coleman sings tunefully yet savagely some of the most brilliant lyrics & keyboard arrangements, a man frustrated with the Reagan & GHWB era world political scene and the record industry of the late 80's/early 90's that almost crushed a great band. Geordie Walker plays slabs of dissonant chords and aggressive almost metal surf guitar riffs. Paul Raven lays down the bass groove with the authority of a punk James Jamerson or Bootsy Collins and a deep aggressive bass tone. The remastered version of this album (which was recorded on their own on a shoe string budget) finally eliminates the tape hiss and allows the bass & drums to thunder along in their proper glory.

The Disc Two of this expanded edition gives great demos of the very rare "The Fanatic", which was performed on tour but never available before, as well as "Solitude" & "The Beautiful Dead". "The Party (Demo)" is easily the weakest track on the 2-disc set as it suffers from compositional flaws in terms of weak song writing in that hte verses & choruses seem to be from 2 different songs. The live version of "Age of Greed" seems eitehr really slow or that it was a digital transfer error. The bonus video is great.

All in all, a great album that is 95% killer, 5% filler like the best Killing Joke albums. Buy this and you won't be disappointed if you like heavy music.

One warning though, do not listen to this album before going to work or you may end up quitting your job!
