Wrapped up in a superb album sleeve, back in the day great things were expected of this release,it delivered, just!.Had a little more care been taken then this could have been a contender for best B.O.C. live album.
Plus points stunning versions of 'Dr Music','Cities On Flame...' and 'Hot Rails To Hell',a fantastic cover version of 'Roadhouse Blues',back in the vinyl days side 4 comprising 'Veteran of the Phychic Wars','E.T.I.' &'...Reaper' was as good as the Cult had ever been on a live disc, and it remains the highlight of this release, the guitar solo on 'Veteran...' is simply superb while i believe the version of 'Dont Fear...' is the best available.
As for the rest well a couple of weak versions of 'Dominance and Submission' and 'Red and Black' let the side down while a truly horrendous decision to have a drum solo in the middle of 'Godzilla' leaves me speechless. That leaves 3 tracks,'Joan Crawford' & 'Burnin For You' from Fire Of Unknown Origin, the former i cant stand, the latter a decent pop moment from the Cult and lastly 'Black Blade' ,certainly its a lot heavier live but its still contrived nonsense.
As for the sound quality at times the drums threaten to over shadow everything to the detriment of Joe Bouchards bass, this disc is definitely due a digital remaster, possibly could release as a deluxe edition? Certainly there are other live tracks in the can which could be used such as 'Mirrors','Great Sun Jester' & 'The Vigil' from the early 80's plus others , pretty much all of Cultasorus Erectus was played live at some point in the 80's,while 'Fire of Unknown Origin' and 'Heavy Metal' were aired in '81.Although im not a huge fan of either of those two early 80's discs it would be interesting to see how the songs fared in the live setting.
