This is the only tall stair gate we could find that does the job and it's brilliant. We wanted it for the top of our stairs when we got a bed for our toddler granddaughter who stays quite often. We put it on the 1st step, rather than level with the landing, to avoid tripping over the bottom of it. All the standard stair gates were just too short, and I could imagine her scrambling over the top. With this one on the 1st stair the top of the gate is exactly level with the banister on the landing which is perfect. Also, unlike the one we have downstairs, this one does not close automatically which I find much better, so when not in use we can just leave it open along the wall where it isn't in our way. It is very sturdy, and pressure fitted against the stairs and the wall, so no need to drill anything. It feels very secure, and we have really put it to the test trying to get it to move, but it is a very good fit and very solid and will not budge. It also comes with an extra rod so it can be extended slightly. To operate the gate there is a button which you press, whilst lifting a lever and raising the gate slightly away from the bottom horizontal bar. To close you just do the reverse and the bottom of the gate sits over the bottom horizontal rail, so there is no way a child could open it as you have to be above the gate to lift it vertically. I should imagine even older children are not tall enough to do this, or strong enough.
Very well made product and I would definitely recommend it. Our little granddaughter is now free to run up and down the landing to her hearts content! And she does!

I have two of these. I have a Shiba Inu and Labrador. I have one in a doorway and one at the bottom of my stairs. Easy to fix. Well made. Sturdy. I like the fact it has to be lifted to lock. Dog proof. Yes you can buy cheaper gates but from experience quality and effectiveness outweigh the costs. I have 100% confidence in this product. Highly recommend.

I purchased this gate because of its extra height. I wanted to keep my dogs away from visiting children and the gate needed to be high enough to stop the dogs from jumping / leaning over it - it does the job! It was very easy to fit, with no need for drilling etc.
